as title implies. im ready to buy a new pipe and silencer. 304 is already locked in, need to know which pc pipe to get. looking for more mid-top end. thanks
-
the pc platinum is just a chrome works pipe and probably better for what you want out of it. it will give gains in all RPM ranges. the pc platinum 2 is heavier (thicker metal) and increases low to mid power. if you really want mid/top you could look into a dynoport, they have a mid/top k5 specific pipe but its $400
-
is there a website for this dyno-port pipe? i had been reading everybodies feedback on pipes....including stewart, and this is the first ive heard of a dynoport.
-
nevermind, told middle of march before they could even start making one for me and its raw only.
-
the dyno port pipe i tested was the lest powerful pipe i have dyno'd,,,,,down 5 hp ,,,the problem with the dyno port pipe is its to short from the port of the head out the single cylinder 500 two strokes like the longer distance of the pipe out to the chamber the dyno port is very short here
-
Stewart what dynoport pipe did you test a big volume or a mid top?
-
it did not look very big
-
sooooo, 1 or 2?
-
the pc 2 was the one i liked,,,,,,,,,,,,,let me add why this later in thread sorry for not enough info,,,im not saying dyno port is good or bad but they really missed it on the k 5 pipe i tested
-
thank you.
-
it did not look very big
so you clearly R not a big fan of dynoport. thats ok with me, but im still queries on which pipe you tried. i dont know if ether pipe they make for the k5 looks big.
the pc 2 was the one i liked
did the pc 2 pull harder in the mid-upper rpm rang or was there another reason you liked it more? at what rpm did the curve sign off compared to the other pipes?
-
i am not a fan one way or another ,,,but the dyno port pipe did not perform well all the way thru the rpm range ...pro circut has a handle on the k 5s pipe ,,,they have done a great job getting as much primary length and the diameters as will fit the bike
-
I've been looking into this myself for top end gains.PC say plat 1 for top end and i agree after much checking of details and scrutinization. Go plat1. or do you want an FMF Desert?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
No seriously, plat 1 is the way forward.....I hope, ordered one.
-
i know its apples and oranges but on my bike ktm380 the pc 2 signs off a lot earlier than the the fmf fatty and my stock pipe.
and it looks like i need to give up on finding out what dynoport pipe Stewart tested. or why he feels the pc2 is better for mid/top
-
Thanks for the info Stewart. The dyno doesn't lie (as long as its always the same dyno). I have owned many pipes that changed the power characteristic greatly but not the overall horsepower. It gets you thinking that "wow this thing flies" and then your buddy passes you. I built a couple of pipes from scratch for a roadracer and it is an art to get all the required lengths to fit on a bike. You have to hand it to guys like PC and FMF. Cam.

Hey bigbellybob, I bought that Dyno-port off stewart. It is the mid-top end pipe.
-
im sorry but what info did Stewart give us? the dynoport pipe he tested was down 5hp, OK i believe him but with out knowing which one of the 2 pipes dynoport offers was down 5hp is worthless info.
and the fact that he likes the pc 2 with out telling us why is useless too.
i think he is saying that the k5 likes a longer section before the divergent cone section but that's not very clear. how much dose it like, how much more dose the pc 2 have over the pc platinum or other pipes? non of his info helps me decide if one pipe favors the mid and upper rmp range over another pipe. and if he is saying that the pc 2 is better for mid/top why would pro circuit have this in the description of the pc 2.

The Platinum 2 pipe was made for people who ride or race off-road. Constructed from heavy-duty 18- gauge metal, it offers increased protection from rock or crash damage. Like the Platinum and Works pipe, the Platinum 2 offers incredible performance with substantial power gains in the low and mid range part of the powerband.
to me this sound like the pipe was designed for low to mid power not mid to top. maybe the dyno showed something different but i have not heard Stewart say that the pc 2 works better in the mid upper RPM than the other pipes, just that he like it.

ok guy not to ruin your day but to all of the k5 riders in canada no one can et PC pipes for the k5 the only pipe we can get in canada is the FMF GNARLY thats all we can get

the dyno port pipe that i sold to dynamac 1999 was down 5 hp at 7000 rpm over the pc 2 pipe ,,i have not tested any other dyno port pipes ,,,it looked to be around 3 inchs shorter in its primary tube ,,the dyno port pipedid not exceed the pc 2 any where else in the power band ,,, bob but theres no reason for your words like useless info,,, i dont type very well and i have been very busy,,and if you would have ask would have in time been able to reply

if this answer does not suit your needs let me know i was not intending to give any one useless info bob

Stewart is like a dictionary when it comes to the k5. Just ask him any ? and he has the answer. He is busy and has always made time for any ? i had. I just had to ask, in my opinion he did answer the ? that was originally asked in this thread. Some people just want more i guess.

maybe i came across as a but head and im sorry, i was just trying to dig up more info. the info that was posted seemed more like personal opinion, with no supporting facts. perhaps useless was a little extreme a term to use. Stewart please don't take offence to my post. i am not good at typing or spelling or grammar. some times its hard to ask the questions in my head because i cant put them in to words. i just wanted the info that brought you to like the pc 2.

no problem here,,, its sometimes hard on a key pad to not be properly heard when it seams like a short answer ,,added with my poor spelling and typing ,,and thats true it was my opnion based on dyno time and riding the stuff,, i would be glad to test any pipe dyno port or other wise ,,lets all learn
-
you can type jibberish for me stewart, your research is bang on.

Bob, Stewart does not go by what other people think about stuff. He dyno's the hell out of stuff and tells the facts about what he has learned with the wrecking wheel. I know you are very smart but I also know you haven't dynoed anything. If you had a chrome part that you swore made the K-5 faster Stewart would dyno the chrome off of it. When he was done he would be able to tell you if triple dip chrome was faster then plain old nickel. See you at the hill bob :-D bring your beer and don't shake it up this time.

pc 2/r304 combo made a noticable increase on my 00 although nothing compared to switching from rad valve to vforce :-D my only complaint is the pipe did not fit as well as the stock or the fmf. guess you cant have it all right.

ck this video with the pc2 pipe we like because they make the most hp

So what was the conclusion on the difference between PC1 and PC2 pipe for the K5? What part of the powerband is each better for?
-
pc1= more top end
pc2= more mid to top
if I am correct
hope this helps.
