Ok, so what does it do ?
 My guess it that it hold the rod in place, while acting as a spacer between the crank weights, so the assembly can be pressed into the case halves,without any distortion.
  But then again, that is just a guess.

That's it :-D I was just excited I was in the shop when the ups guy brought it.

Did you buy it direct or through an auction?
