Title: Daytona Bike Week
Post by: DoldGuy on January 20, 2009, 06:40:48 AM
Any of the KX Riders heading to Bike Week?

Think it would be a great opportunity to have a KX Riders get together on one of the nights!

Will try again?

It was almost 70* there today & I am in need of some SUNSHINE! Even though DMG has mucked up the Road Racing, still looking forward to the Supercross & Short Track (which has moved to the Speedway on the outside of turn 2).

Jerry,
It's the first week of March & I can hardly wait to see some warmer weather & get a chance to ride. We have been hammered here with snow & the forecast calls for more tomorrow & Wednesday.
Load that big Cummins up with the 12 and grab the other boys from MO & head down even if it's just for the Weekend. :-D

Hello Doldguy!  I'll be there from Wednesdaythrough Sunday.  I have to shorten my stay this year due to the increase of work brought about by a rather large fire at our distilling unit.  Maybeybe we can get together / meet for a beer one day and make it the Official 1st Annual KX Riders Daytona Bike Week Fest!

I just found out my buddy Josh Hayes won't be riding the 200 because of the Superbike Doubleheader.   I feel somewhat sad for him.  Yamaha has him committed to the Superbike class.    It's ashame because he's had that win in his grasp a few times, but has been deprived.  Last years' 2nd place and '08's win that was taken back because it was noted at the tech teardown that his crankshaft was  polished which is against the rules.  Erion Honda must have performed some manicuring to it!

Yeah DMG leaves alot to be desired.   Last years fiasco with the Pace Car almost had riders down.  Pulling in front of the wrong riders and flagging them back around the pace car.   During the riders meeting Miladin and others were complaining about some of the dangers they were facing and the officials wouldn't even acknowledge.

The friend that I pit for won't be riding this year due to the economic situation and sponsors pulling way back.  That's good for me.  Less work and more time to relax and watch the races!

Anyway, the racing will be great and the weather will hopefully be the same.   My crew and I stay at the track in the infield.

Anybody else headed down to the Sunshine State?

Started the day off cool (in the 30's) but turned out to be a beautiful day in the 60's. Hooked up with some Good Canadians for a Poker Run for about 200 miles for a Great Ride. Heading to the track after our yearly dinner @ J.B.'s Fish Camp (awesome Coconut Shrimp) & attempting to hook up with Throttle Junky.

CBX it looks like your week will be even better!

I took it easy during the day Saturday & met up with Throttle Junky & his Crew for the Super Cross that evening (he had the best seats in the house / Thanks TJ). Went to the concession to buy the first round for everyone & after 20 minutes was informed they only will sell 2 at a time  :x. Enjoyed some great racing in both classes (even though I was not even close on my prediction) and meeting the boys from the Bayou & after listening to some stories, sounds like they like to have lots O fun (I could get in trouble with them )
Hopefully next year we will have warmer weather to play in and some more members heading down.

Hey DoldGuy, it was a pleasure to meet with you.   Thanks for the COLD BEER.  Next year we'll have to include a m/c ride. Maybe ride down to that restaurant @ Ponce Inlet you were talking about.

Getting back from Daytona was tough enough riding that Vulcan. (That upright seating position kills me.)
It was even tougher at work to get back up to speed.  Take five days off and come back to a whole different world.

As DoldGuy already said, this year's Daytona Bike Week was on the cold side.  Didn't wear shorts or short sleeve shirt the whole time.  I actually kept my thermals on the entire trip.

Flat Track racing was action packed.   It was held at the Speedway this year.   Now you don't have to travel out to DeLand  to watch the Flat Track events.  Why didn't they think of this idea years ago.

RoadRacing was good and Supercross was even better.  GREEN on top of the podium in both classes.  The only real racing to watch during Supercross was the battles for 2nd, 3rd, 4th place and back!!!

It was great BenchRacing with you, DoldGuy!

Doug,

As we know the AMA and DMG split the racing up, moving Supercross to the first weekend of Bike Week. In the past we could go down there for four or five days and see Flattrack, Supercross and all of the RoadRacing.  It was GREAT!
This year, to see all of those races, one will have to stay for eight or nine days.

I was going down on my regular schedule, Wednesday  thru Sunday, and miss the Supercross that was moved to the first weekend BUT after watching the very first Supercross race this year, I changed my mind.  NO WAY will I miss Daytona SX.  I made the decision  to miss the roadracing weekend instead.   It was a tough call but I couldn't get down there for that amount of time.

Anybody going to Houston SX on 2/12?  We'll be there tailgating in the parking lot before the races.  Let me know if your going.   This is an open invitation for anyone from KXRiders to stop by our diesel pusher for a beer and a bite!

Should be leaving tomorrow morning to head South  :-D to the Pomised Sunshine that Rooster will have for us. Weather here is not to bad but looking forward to riding the Street Bike & taking in some of the racing / shows.

Throttle Junky I assume you are already there & once we get into town will try to hook up with you & the Crazy Bayou Boys for a Cold One.

Anyone else heading down this year?

Rooster hope to catch up with you one night and eat some of that infamous Coconut Shrimp at JB's. CBX see if you can talk the little lady into staying a few more days & I'll buy you a beer!

The Supercross should be an awesome race and think Stewart will finally be on the soil he loves & with Villopoto riding so well.....

Now is there anyone to make the championship interesting?

Doldguy,
Went down a few days early. Rode A1A (coast road) from Augustine down to Ponce Inlet.  The forecast had 20% chance of rain for the whole weekend but I guess we got 100% of the 20%!

Test rode the Can-Am Spyder.  Riding it felt like I was sitting backward on a ATC 250 Big Red with the steering and controls in my hands.  Felt like a "high side" was coming!

Left Daytona to get back early in the week.

Hope everyone down there has a great time!
