Title: Ultimate Rocky Mtn Ride!
Post by: mikesmith on November 05, 2003, 08:47:41 PM
The November Dirt Bike Magazine has a article on riding the Colorado Rockies with a little part labled "Ultimate Rocky Mountain Ride."It's a KX500!The guy who owns the bike is  a guide for the area on a dual sported KX 500,runs a IMS tank,Revlock, gnarly pipe,2 calipers on the rear disk(for when the rear brake fades or when you cant reach the brake pedal?).The stock foot pedal and a second caliper hooked up to a hand brake above the clutch lever. He also has the 2 piece clutch cover like Destry ran,but I dont see a skid plate or case guards?Take a look when you see the new Dirt Bike.

Wow,  I was going to ask about that side cover.  Where would one pick this up?

I'm not sure who fabricated it,they show it in one of the pictures.Maybe you could drop Dirt Bike a letter asking about it.

I went on Destries site and asked him where he got the 250 style two piece cover for hus 500 and he replied that it is a works part :(  so to get one you have to ride like him :(

Anyway how about getting a 250 clutch cover and getting a GOOD machine shop to machine the side off a spare 500 cover then weld on lugs for the bolts to fit into..

Err perhaps :?

Thats the only way I can see it being done (even Destry's),and I think Price racing had them when they were racing KX500's.I dont see them using a 250 cover, looks like they cut the outer part of the 500 cover off, weld on lugs, then machine a new outer cover to bolt on.I dont think it'd be to hard to do when you look at it in picture's of it.
