I've been doin the normal winter fun, workin' on the green machines. I noticed I had a broken vent tube. Its the one that arcs over the carb. At first, i did what I would do, if I noticed while out riding. I cut off the bad and had a shorter vent tube. Its just a little short-looking and the rest are pretty ragged. I thought " I'll just go to an auto parts house and pick some up. 3 or 4 feet will be plenty." All they have is black. I found yellow fuel line at a farm and ranch supply, then of course wanted green, or purple or something exotic, ya know. Well maybe not exotic, but noticeable would be good. I also considered that the colored plastic, I like just because of a neon color may not hold up to VP fuel. I know even the good stuff gets hard as a brick after awhile. Anyone been here yet?

colored would look cool and i have considered putting on colored vents myself, however i decided against it because if one gets clogged i can see it through the clear tubing but if it were colored you would have to remove it and flow check the tube to check for sure. something to consider.

Good Point. I didn't think about that either. What about clear though. It turns opaque brown pretty quick doesn't it? Is there a spec on the id or material the tubing is made from that I need to look out for? I live close to Indy, so there is plenty of race shops around to call or stop by, but would like to make it one trip.
I had a tear in that line probably an inch long. I already wonder how long that had been there, and if it caused me problems. I did find dirt in the carb. What happens if they clog?
I found transparent colors in english units. 1/8" work for vents and 3/16 work for fuel? They say its for this purpose so, it won't harden or melt. Blue, green, clear, yellow, red available. They sell china bikes, but may suit the need what do you guys think?

i can't remember the exact size but i bought a 6 foot lenght at the local hardware store of just basic clear tubing. i wondered if it would hold up to the fuel vapor, but its been on there 2 years now without any problems and it was cheap. its not real flexible and tends to kink when bent so i had to be careful when i routed it on the k5. as far as what happens if the vents are clogged, i can't be certain, but i think it would affect the idle and the mixture at higher rpm's. the newer bikes come stock with a transparent pink vent/overflow tubing that is pretty flexible. i thought about getting some from our local kawi dealer but i just couldn't put pink on the mighty k5. i am tough enough to wear pink :-D :-P, i just don't like the color. i got this carb off BDI and he had already put the colored lines on it. i like the way it looks and would probably replace with red again if i needed new lines down the road.

OK sorry for all the KTM junk i do love my bike and jump at the chance to share it.
now back to the vent line Helix has solid and transparent colored line. the transparent colored line would give you the looks and still allow you to see a clog.

I bleed "Green" but that is a Very nice bike! I too like to tinker in the winter and add some bling and fix some parts! I am going to add colored vent lines to both my 95 KX500 and my 06 KX450F. I found a really cool place to get complete bike hose kits down to vent hose kits only. It is at the following site: www.motohose.com Check it out. They have five different colors. They also make a really nice "Fat Bar" Clamp. Ride hard

Something else you guys may consider a small filter on your vent lines.
These are all open to atmosphere and one more way dirt can find its way into your fuel system.
Here's a link to a fancy vent filter : http://www.7602racing.com/catalog_Kawasaki.php
I actually was using small cheap fuel filter (for like a lawnmower) that was routed to the air box.
(like the P.C. filters http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/common/img_pop.jsp?skuId=170667&imgId=0 )
I couldn't justify the $20.00 for a few plastic "T's" and clear tubing with some foam velcroed to the air box.
These guys are much more realistic on price and have a nifty "One way" check valve type vent.

thats good info tuck. i'm not sure that dust could travel all the way up to the carb through the vent lines but for around $4.00 per line you couldn't go wrong with a little extra protection. those guys from the last link really have some nice stuff. MADDOGGY

I've bought blue lines a while back, just need to put them on. Working on bikes, personalizing them is almost as fun as riding them.
