Title: Chains, which one to buy?
Post by: bunk on November 23, 2008, 06:22:31 AM
Whats the best brand of chain to go with for the 500?  I know O-rings are best but what brands have you guys ran and liked/disliked?  And if possible what did you pay for your certain chain if you remember?

I got my new sprockets on, 14/50 ended up working really well at the dunes all day but on the last ride out this happened.  Went to drop the hammer racing a drag banshee and POW!!!

I think thats the chain i put on my old 426f and it held up really well.  Is it worth spending the extra money on a sidewinder chain??

Renthal, Regina, DID, and especially Sidewinder are all good just make sure you get one with a high tensile strength for the K5.
I've found some pretty good prices here

Put some superglue on it and go  :-P

High tensile strength is what really matters honestly. I've always used DID, Renthal, and Sidewinder on all my bikes. Broke a few DIDs but haven't broke a Renthal or Sidewinder yet. I like Sunstar sprockets for the front and I always use a steel JT or Renthal sprocket in the rear.

I've gone through a LOT of chains in the past 26 years, cheap roller, o-ring, x-ring, and every brand in between. By far the most impressive chain as far as overall value is the Regina ORN6 !!  One TOUGH chain. I have the Regina on both my KX500, and my YZ450F. One fact when you run a premium quality chain is your sprocket life literally will triple in usage... so this aspect makes it a no brainer why you should anti-up the bucks and buy a premium chain.

For me the best chain has been the RK brand. I have had very good results with them

Not me. RK's rank as one of the crap chains from my experiences...
