If this is offered, will you design a lighting coil ignition similar to the one you have for the CR500AFX? Will you offer a KX250AFX? Approximately when will it be released? Sorry for the questions, its probably way to early to answer them, but this bike really piques my interest!

(availibilty of the engine parts, in quantity , is what i'm going over with kaw)

and that's a very good question!!
my first thoughts on building this bike, was to introduce it as a KX300AFX
(a 285 kit) with lighted off-road trail version (KLX 450 lights)
so that concept is what "started" the bike initially.
at the moment I havn't decided its ultimate finished displacement or trim...
(it may simply stay stock 250cc)
but I do intend to release both, an mx version and an off road version
:)
hopefully by jan or feb 09

KX300AFX! I was considering the new for 09 Husky WR300 but I bleed green and the euro bikes scare me! Do you have to build the engines, like the 500s? Or are you able to by them as a crate motor. Oh, not DeSoto, its a nickname I picked up in the 80's.

We have to hand build the engines up,
from new parts ;)
but we are quite used to it,,
and i enjoy it actually :)

I was under the impression you could buy a complete 250 motor already assembled. I bought one off ebay a year or so ago, new and complete (06 motor), with the intention of doing what AJ's is doing, but not enough time and to many projects.

very true that Kaw, may have sold a crated engine to a dealership here or there..(and somone bought it and then sold it on ebay)
but (like many engines) they are not readily availible in any quantity.
(for example i can't call up kaw and order 15 KX250 engines, they simply won't have them, but they might have one or two..)
for that matter i cant call up Honda and order 15 CRF250 (or 450) engines either.. they might have 2 or 3.. but none in any real quantity.
as a dealership I check the OEMs wharehouse inventories often..
and its funny , i likey have far more new engines in stock ,
than honda or kaw combined ,have in thier parts wharehouses
that are availible to sell to a dealer(or customer)
(as far as CR/CRF KX/KXF engines go-- example i have about 140 08 CRF250R engines ,Honda has 4)
for me when i release a new model ,i typically need to be able to have a minimum of 20 engines in stock ,
and normally more like 100 to 200 per year(on 500's),, so I have to plan accordingly.. knowing they dont have more than couple , i need to develope and cost the bike with building engines from scratch in mind.
