Title: 2002 kickstand
Post by: gwcrim on November 02, 2008, 02:28:30 AM
Been looking around this morning for a kickstand for a 2002 KX250.  Who makes one of these animals now a days?

I had a hard time finding a nice one for my 01.  Because of this I just bought a nice trailtech kickstand and modified it to fit my bike. Been on there a couple years now and no problems.

Looks like Danger has one from Pro Moto Billet. Pics in his gallery.

What was it originally to fit?

I think it was to fit the 03 to 05. You need to look at your bike and then compare the product to see. Most mount around the same point and its up to you to figure out the rest.  Just keep an open mind when figuring it out!!!

I have a Trail Tech as well on a KX500, but the ProMoto Billet is superior quality and I do believe easier to install.

GWCrim,

Were you able to find a kickstand for your 2002 KX250? I ride the same bike and also would like a kickstand. Let let me know what you've learned and/or what you're using.

Thanks :-D

ProMoto Billet, worth the money.  5 years on my '04 K5 not one problem.

No, I have not yet found a kick stand for the 99-02 chassis other than the cheap Ebay one I have on my 250.  It's a $55 piece with a weak tubular steel arm.  We already broke one.

I've posted for help to see what the bolt centers are on an 03-05 chassis.  Those are easy to find.  If it doesn't take too much grinding and drilling, I'll go that route.

i'd dig one too. I enjoy riding the KDX cause its got a kickstand, and could enjoy one on my hybrid.

thanks gwcrim,

Yea, I haven't found much for the 99-02 chasis. I've seen some kickstands that mount on the swing arm, just behind the chain rub plate, but I'm leery, worried of the quality, location (chain), etc. Have you or anyone you know used this type? How do they work?

I used a swingarm stand on my 89 500 and there's one on our 03 85.  They are OK, just not what I'm used to.  Quality is good.  But the springs on the 85 continually broke.  I finally put a spring on it from (of all things) a trampoline.  Works great now.  I think it may have to do with the frequency of the vibrations on the 85.  Who knows.

I may just go that route with this bike.  They do work.  But I want to investigate my options.

My ZX12R has a hose around the spring to keep it from vibrating. At least I think that is why they used the hose. :?

I'll keep looking around; I'd rather not use the swing arm clamp type but may need to. Then again, I've been riding this bike for 15 months without a kickstand, I've just been leaning it in a tree or against a saguaro cactus

Once you get a kickstand, you'll wonder how you ever lived w/out it.

Why do men sleep best on their side?          Because they have a kickstand !!!!

OK, went riding with my son this past weekend (he's 6 and rides a PW50), he took a pretty big fall and it sucked not having a kickstand for my bike so I could help him without laying my bike down. I just ordered a stand that mounts on the swing arm; sure  hopes it works well. I'll be much better prepared next time.

I emailed Garrett at ProMoto yesterday and he is taking measurements for the 2001 KX. He should have an answer soon if they can serve the '01.

I assume the 2001 kickstand would also fit the 1999, 2000, and 2002? Right?

I got an email this AM saying that the lower subframe bolt and upper chain roller bolt are too close together to provide any sort of proper mounting. So looks like we are SOL.

I have one of these.  Other than the fact that the leg is made out of tubing that is too thin, It's a decent piece.  I have to get a replacement leg for my 250 as it actually bent.  The bike was parked leaning downhill and there was a lot of weight and leverage on it.

Here's a thought.  If we can come up with a bulk order the guy who makes them may put in stiffer tubing.

I have found a local starving machinist.  I think he'd be happy to make some kickstands for the 99-02 bikes.  I'll show him mine and we can come up with a price.

Anyone interested?

I might be interested, but I just put one of those swing arm types on. Depending on how well it works, I still may be interested in a nice one that mounts to the frame, just behind the foot peg. Could you post some pics and the price range?
