Title: Lets see your oldest Dirt Bike T-shirt or Jersey!!
Post by: KXcam22 on October 29, 2008, 05:38:50 PM
Lets see who can field the oldest dirt bike T-shirt or Jersey.  Dig into your storage and pull out your old stuff (yeah the stuff your wife won't let you wear anymore).  If a story goes along with it lets hear it.....Cam.

Heres mine...

In 1976 (I was 16) I took a cross-Canada and return back across the US epic car trip with my parents.  My dad was pround to average 600 miles a day (or more) for 30 days straight.  I convinced him to let me take my 1972 montessa 250 along so I could ride in different places.  Well the bike blew up the first time I rode it so we hauled that dud bike (on a tiny trailer) across Canada and the US.  I picked up this T-shirt at a bike shop somewhere on one of our rare stops.  Theres a pic of that bike in my gallery leaned way over on a berm. Cam.

PS It actually still fits, good thing I bought it big..........

Heres my 1977 Montessa Race Jersey.  I got a job when I turned 16 and started saving for my first new dirt bike.  In 1977 Montessa released the VB250.  It was an amazing bike in its time, 207lbs  14" rear travel and the fastest thing on the track.  It even had a flat seat tank profile like the modern bikes (although the tank was fiberglass) and the most shocking development was the "up" pipe. I suddenly went from squid to race leader once I got that bike.  They came stock with a 10T countershaft sprocket so you would wear one out about once a month.  I liked it so much I bought a VB360 a few months later so I could race 2 classes. Cam.

That is amazing!!! How in the world did you keep up with those clothes. Back when I was more into MX, I never was able to keep a jersey for a year because of all the wreaks, they were in shambles by then!

Awesome story though! I wish I had kept some memories from childhood. I miss those sometimes (Z50, CT70, TS100, ect.) My son has a Z50 in the attic after I blew a valve, I imagine I rode that more than he did, it was soo many memories. It makes me want to buy some of the prior bikes that bring back wonderful memories of my Dad and I wrenching and riding afterwords. I've been very tempted, just to ride around the woods and remember.

Bought to wear while riding a 74 Mag 250 Husky. That Husky was a piece of junk, the shirt lasted way longer. I'd still like to own a collector.
