i want a ride on the 685 , http://twostrokemotocross.com/2008/10/maico-releases-2009-motocross-line/
-
me too. the 685 is basically the same bike as the ATK 700. the maico 250 is very impressive too. 54hp out of a stock 250! i have heard that the 620 is faster on top end but you could pull your trailer with the torquey 685
-
The power is nice, but how much gas will it suck down. I believe if I am having fun I really do not care about how much fuel I use, but if I can only ride for 45 minutes or so at a time then I'd rather stick to my kx500. The bike does look nice. One other problem, kick starter and chain on the wrong side. Just my opinion.
-
I'm all over that 500, i'd love to get a ride on it. Looks like its pretty setup.
-
Cheerz for the link
Hard case how the Maico 500 only a few horsepower more than the dirty five an 18 year old recipe :-) Highlights how good the KX500 truly is to me (911 of MX bikes)

Got a mate who had until very recently (his shed with several bikes burnt to the ground) a watercooled 94 (ish) Maico 250 dirtbike, I would be very surprised indeed if it had anywhere near 54 horse and the Maico engines are pretty basic, saw an 06 or maybe 07 version in a local bike shop and its got the same engine as my mates one.
The 685 has the same engine as the old 84 500s but bored out and stroked, same pneumatic powervalve system though.
There has been a tie in with KTM in the past as his 250 (I owned it for a while also) had the plastic waterpump cover with KTM moulded onto it.

I'd like to see some reviews on the ATK 700 and the big Maicos. Anyone seen any good videos on these bikes?
-
bigbellybob or stewart, do you know if ATK is building these Maicos, or does Maico build ATKs? I was at the ATK website a couple of days ago and it appeared that they have not advertised the 2009s. ATK built the 700, 620, and 500 for a few years, and had a 2008 line. In addition they bought Cannondales four stroke line. Just wondering, if anyone knows. ATK is just down the road from me in Utah.
-
Where do I buy one?
-
What i have seen is the are using a engine from ZABEL 8-).
Well none for sidecar power.

This is Maico UK.
Looks the same as ATK Usa.

The only place I know of that sells Maicos is Bill Browns (also called Wulfsport) in the UK, its about 30 miles away from me and I have been over there to buy parts for my mates Maico 250 shown here.

Your right though, the big maico engine is the same as the Zabel one.
Oh and this bike is one of the Maico 500s that the bigger engines based on and it wouldn't be hard to fit the more modern plastics that the 250 has cos they are just the same mouldings as RM250 plastics but contracted to Maico.

Demographic, I didn't now your from the UK.
Thats nearby compared to the US :-D.
How hard is it to get a KX500 in the UK for a good price.
I've seen that new bike (KXF and RMZ) are a lot cheaper in the Uk than in The Netherlands.

It's easy enough getting a KX500 over her, the problems come when you want one thats new and in good condition as they stopped bringing them over in large numbers in about 1990, theres still some more recent ones about (the newest i have seen was a 97) and I have never seen one go for more than about fifteen hundred pounds, one of my 90s (I have two 90s) cost me a thousand but that was already road registered and the other cost ?300 but that had been flipped by the lad I worked with and still needs a few bits.
It would have been rather a lot closeer to being sorted but the rear subframe was in a mates garage when it burnt down :-(
Theres a few about that need a bit of work and as long as you are prepared for that its not too much of a problem.
KXF 450s are still pretty expensive as far as I have seen and as yet I have not managed to get one with a bust engine to put one of my engines into.
Having said that, I am not exactly rich at the moment (when am I ever?) and the works getting a bit thin on the ground for me which doesn't help the situation.
Scott.

I think money is a riders problem for all of us :-D
For 5150 pond(?6000) a men can buy a kxf450 in the uk. In holland its ?7300(6280 pond)
for a kxf450. Sounds "cheap" but stil 1200 pond to much for me.
I've been thinking to go to the UK for a new ride.
Money money money :x
wil see what it wil become my next ride.

So what bikes do you see a lot of in Holland? Husabergs, Ktm's?
-
You see al kind of bikes, Honda's, KTM,Yamaha's are the most .Then Suzuki, Kawasaki's or some Husaberg Husqvarna a loonsome Beta and Aprillia.
Tm is up north populer. In my hood its Ktm Suzuki honda first than Yamaha and kawasaki.

I was reading in Motocross Magazine, that Husqvarna is running a very strong campaign to sell more bikes in Europe and not push as hard in the States. Almost giving the US to the Japanese makers.

Got a mate who used to sell TMs, I only had a go on the 125 MX version but it had a fair bit of poke for a small engine.
The running gear was top class as well.

The problems have been with the exchange rates between Europe and the US and the Dollar has been too low to give good export value when selling to the US.

If I'm correct TM used to copy the KX gearbox and more special motorbike things.
Because the used to build only Kart engine's.
And for the "cheap" dollar some people import stuff from the us. Although the doller is rising
and is less intresting to do.
Husqvarna & TM are very beautifal bikes wich I would ride, but japanees bikes are build stronger.
