for some reason the kicker on my bike slips and man does that hurt :-o
is this common? what is the fix for it. the beast is easy enough to start when it catches.

Mine did that when the little plastic collar inside kicker was broke. It was easy to spot once disassembled. Oil sludge can cause problems and is also easy fix. Could also be worn teeth on gears in there, but is alot less common.

Found this in the search function http://www.kxriders.com/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=80
Lots of pictures.

But on another note my kickstart gear started slipping like this on both an 86 Tecate 3 and an 86 Kx250.
Did not have a problem until the waterpump seals went bad and the oil became contaminated with coolant/water and turned milky. Replaced seal and oil and no more slipping.
