Title: Loose gear shift
Post by: kiwikx500 on August 13, 2008, 04:45:36 PM
The new gear shift loose on the spline, is there any material that can be used that goes around the spline to pack it out a bit ?

Cheerz

The shift is a clamp style, make sure the bolt is tight on the shifter. Might be some wear on the splines of the shift shaft.

May get lucky and just need a new shifter do to the shifter being aluminum and the shaft being steel if not the shift shaft is easy enough to change.

i have a simple and good solution for this.
if the shifter innersplines are good, and on the shaft also,
but still you can see /feel tiny freeplay?

take it off and splitted halves where the bolt goes through,
these halves can be grinded a mm wider with a 1 mm thick cuttingdisc.
so the split is a bit wider now, then you can tighten the bolt a bit more .
then it grabs deep and free of play in eachothers splines
did this mod on my both bikes ,never had any issues with shifters come loose :-)
