I have been out for 3 days riding all over the El Paso area. When I came in to park for the last time yesterday my rear end had dropped about three inches. :x  After 300 miles in three days I have had the energy to take a close look at my KX yet. Does anyone have an idea what would make the rear suspension drop? :?
Thanks!

Any leaks? Can you turn the spring by hand with the bike on a stand?

I didn't notice any leaks, and to tell you the truth I was so tired I didn't check the spring. I was somewhat baffled by the drop in suspension. I will check when I get home from the store today.
Thanks Alan

Lost pressure? Sacked Out? Blew your shock 'cause your too fast?Right Manny  Manny
I am to old to be that fast! I think you are right, I checked it this morning and I can grab the rear fender and lift it up serveral inches. I thought it was the spring preload that held it up! Oh well stupid me! Looks like I well need to have it rebuilt. So is there anything I should do to it while there rebuilding it?

I checked with the guy that rebuilds my shocks and forks and he said it probably lost the nitrogen in the shock. What would cause that to happen?

Popped the bladder.
Got some junk in the nipple.
Buttrash let it out when you weren't looking
-
If I popped the bladder there would be lots of oil all over it coated with red sand! Its dry that is why I was confused, or maybe just getting to old to remember!
Thanks Paul!

So did you get it serviced yet to determine the true culprit? I still think Dave had something to do with it

Ok guys now I feel like a real Dumb Ass! I took my bike into my buddy shop today that does supension work. He took one look and said, " Did you find the all the parts when your upper mounting bolt fell out of your shock" Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I guess thats why there was no oil!
The upper rear shock mount bolt fell out, the shock went up and bent the pipe and broke 2 mounts melted the cover and burned the seat cover and broke the pipe mount off the frame.
d**n a little locktite sure would have worked wonders!

You know I honestly was going to write about checking the top bolt but never got around to it.The reason why is it happened to a friends KX250,top bolt fell out of the shock but he was on a MX track when it happened(short ride back to the truck).

Brian Brown had a bottom shock bolt fall out once as well, although it was on a KX250. That is exactly why I disassemble all of my bikes immediately after I pick them up from the dealer, and locktite almost every bolt and nut. Several are spared the locktite treatement, but not many. Also, I beleive on some of the older bikes, the top shock bolt is jsut long enough to thread into the mount. Purchase a bolt about 3/4 inch longer, and add a nut to the bolt for added security.

Two words: Lock Wire

Two words: Lock Wire
So are you saying to drill the bolt head and then safety wire it? What they should have done was to us a longer bolt and put a jam nut on the outside!
Alan :D

Thats what I did. Everything that ever decided to fall off or loosen up, if safety wire could get on it. then it did.
-
Hmmm. Don't really have any safety wire on my bike, except for the oil plug. However, as I mentioned, I locktite almost every bolt on the bike. Never had anything on the bike fall off....yet.

Alan, make loctite and your KX5 ( or any off road machine ) friends!
I use blue loctite on everything on my bike. The blue loctite is medium strength and removable. Works great. Use it on your tank, seat, side panels, & everything else. I had my 125 racing buddy laughing at me when I was putting my bike together, I had my BIG bottle putting drops on all the bolt threads. One more thing, it only takes a drop on the threads to work, any more is waisting it. I hope this helps.
