Hi.
Moving on from my Introduction post.
I finally got a Moose Torque Spacer today and went to fit it.
I took the old reed cage out to replace the reeds but have come across a problem.
There is some damage to the edges of two of the reeds so they need replacing.
However the Boysen reeds that I bought do not fit the cage I have got.
These are the reeds that I bought

These are the reeds that I removed

You can see the damage to them.
This is the cage I took out

What Have I got and what do I need to get it running?
Many thanks

It appears that those Pro Series reeds are not the right ones. That also appears to be stock reed cage. Where did you get the Boyesen from?

Here's the part number straight from Boyesen's web site.(photo's are reference

Hi.
Thanks for the reply.
I got the reeds off e-bay a while ago.
It is written in ink on the back of the packet "KX500 1987 onwards and CR500 1985 onwards."
I had a look on the Boysen web site when I got them which made me think at the time I had the right ones.
Do Boysen reeds fit the stock KX cage?
Therefore these reeds are marked up incorrectly?
What other manufacturers are there or what do you recommend?
Thanks again
Gus

Yes Boyesen reeds fit the stock reed cage. You don't have the correct reeds for your bike. Just for reeds go with Boyesen.

Thanks for the advice Hughes.
I'll get some as soon as possible and give an update when I get them.
While I'm getting such good advice, where should I look or put a new post to find out about gearing.
My front sprocket is 15 and the rear sprocket is 38.
But because I am running the Honda NC30 single sided swing arm, the wheel diameter (including tyre) is only 25 Inches.

I don't know how this equates to stock gearing with a stock diameter wheel.
All suggestions are much appreciated.

stock gearing on kx 500 is 14/47 with a 19-inch wheel is that what you are asking? your gearing is super tall
-
those reeds appear to be for the boyesen rad valve for the cr500.
-
Thanks for the replies.
What is the diameter of a stock 19 inch wheel including the tyre? I'm assuming it must be close to 25 inches or larger.
Super tall????? Does this mean it is topping out too early or it is geared for top speed?
Which way should I go with either the front, rear or both sprockets to get it closer?
I've contacted the people who sold me the reeds but I may not get an answer from them until Wednesday.
It was hard trying to find a stockist in the U.K. anyway I've got some coming early next week. Twice the price in the U.K $100
Cheers

I took a quick measurement and 19inch is around 25 inches with a tire
super tall means your bike is built for speed. lower gearing like stock 14/47 is for track riding. the small the rear or the larger the front gives you tall gearing and the opposite for low gearing
not sure what you are looking for in gearing. you said "to get it closer". closer to what? there are websites and charts that show you the gear ratios for all the combinations of front and rear. you can find the ratio for your current setup and find alternative setups for the same or you can find ratio for stock and find other combinations closer to that.

Why 4 holes and not 3 on reed ??The pro-45 I have have just 3 hole and fit on1988-2004 on boyesen web site??Not sure they fit to your cage

I guess it's because I'm used to my road bikes and not sure how the KX is supposed to perform.
My mate clocks me at around 100-110mph on the road. Is this a good speed or is it me used to going faster?

I don't know!! I've e-mailed Boyesen to ask them for the part number to fit a stock cage.
I might have to phone them on Monday.
If all Boyesen reeds are three screw set up I still don't know what i've got.
Somebody must know the Boyesden Part Number for a set of reeds to fit a stock 500.

I have just spoken to a very helpful lady at Boyesen.
She told me for a stock cage I can use:
Power Reeds Part #615
or
Pro Series Reeds Part # PRO-45
