Title: reading vin #, what year is my bike?
Post by: kx5tsi on July 02, 2008, 11:04:54 AM
Hi, just curious if anyone could tell me what year my bike is, and also the year of the engine that is on it.

I picked up my old kx500 last year for a good deal and got one season out of her, now I am going to totally redo the bike from the ground up. I have the whole thing apart and now comes the time to order parts, so I want to know what Im working with.

vin on frame is jkakxvc16ha000588; assuming its an 88, but the motor number has me stumped.

vin on motor is kx500be004604

I think its an older motor than the frame, because when I went to get a new clutch hub it did not fit, mine is only 6 or 8 splines, where as the 88 and up part had many more, not sure exactly on the count.

also if anyone could point me in a good direction as far as parts go, id appreciate it

any help is appreciated, thanks,

kyle

87 motor, I buy alot of my OEM parts from Midwest action cycle, aftermarket stuff from Motosport outlet, engine rebuilds from Thomas Racing Service.
