Title: POwer valve cover
Post by: jazg on May 20, 2008, 10:13:22 PM
oi oi!
On a KX125 when you take off the plastic side cover to the little gears that move your power valve, there is a push rod/bar that actuates those gears. I heard somewhere that the rod goes down into the gearbox, can anyone confirm this? :? I'm not too clued up with whats going with power valves!

Reason is that my cover doesn't seal so well and i'm wondering if i'm getting water in my gearbox oil every time i spray my bike down, also because my oil discolours very quickly. A mate of mine says its just because of the clutch but i'm still nervous about it!

Thanks guys :-D

power valve is exhaust governor. It gives it back pressure at bottom end, though I'm not at all the power valve expert. Its not getting water in crankcase as it is sealed in the clutch cover. If oil starts with a little silver, ur alright. If it looks milky at first, while draining, you have lost the seal at water pump. It would be an easy fix, with new seal.

On a non - power valved bike if you want more top end power grind the top of the exaust port to raise the height...if you want more low end power you need it to be low.  With a power valve it is essentially an ajustable port...it drops down at low rpm and as revs increase the valve raises up letting the bike to continually rev when normally it would be ready for another gear...So it give you a broad power band........km
