Well boys it happened, after 15 years I finally got a new bike. Unfortunately it's not green, it doesn't burn oil, and it has more valves than my grandad has teeth. It was a tough decision for me. I've been to the dealers twice before with cash burning a hole in my pocket. The first time I could never find enough things any new bike did better than the K5 worth the $10K so I bought a ski boat. The second time, ditto and I bought a new truck. I guess 3rd times the charm, plus the wife wouldn't let me come home until I bought something. I am getting kind of old so I started looking at bikes with wide cushy seats, electric start, maybe streamers on the handlebars, you know old guy stuff. Then the little MX devil on my shoulder started talking "you're not that old, you could race again.....buy a weapon!!" and so on. To be fair I did visit the green dealer first. As usual I couldn't get the time of day from him and the best deal was full retail with some free oil. Luckily the red dealer in the next town was blowing them out for $2500 off, so I took a road trip. Here is the whole story (the second pic is what happens when you buy a bike in winter in Canada):

Nice bike. Hope you enjoy it. Is that 450? Doesn't matter if it is green/blue/red or yellow ridin is ridin.
-
That is a nice bike, and I am glad to see that you are smart enough to drive a Tundra!! :-D
-
Congrats Cam!!!! I don't care what people say otherwise, desert and trail riding is WAY more fun and ultimately easier on your body on a 4 stroke.....
Your knees and lower back are going to kill you MR...... because after your butt goes numb from that seat and handlebar angle, you are going to be standing on those pegs more than you did on the KX..... hehehehe

cam congrats, that's a sweet ride. I am thoroughly jealous.

Hey............wait a minute, that dog looks like my stupid dog............
All joking aside, brand does not matter. If your on 2 wheels or 3 for that matter, you are welcome here.
Cam, looks like that will be fun throwing snow.

I'll ride red till I'm dead and green in between. You know you can get a stroker crank from http://www.hotrodsproducts.com/index.cfm that uses a shorter rod so you don't need a spacer It makes the bike a 470cc. You can also get a big bore kit from athena Its a whole new cylinder with thicker water jacket that bolts right on and makes it a 490. You know what I'm thinking cam, Crank + Cylinder =510cc throw in a stage two cam from http://www.hotcamsinc.com/ maybe some bigger valves and some race fuel.   O-yeah nice bike and congrats now it's time to modify it. :-D
-
I'd suggest a Wiseco 500cc big bore kit with M4 exhaust.

Now that's funny...I don't care who you are...that's funny. Cam, I just rode a friend of mine's '08450 like yours and it was sweet. I have an '07YZ450 and it is killer too. As you get older, and the bikes get better...Life is good!

That would be all great but the fact of the matter is it would still be a KTM and thats hard to fix. The only thing I like about KTMs is whooping on them at the hill       You ride a 380? those things are loud you should put one of those quiet drain pipe looking muffler things on it :-P :-D       8-)

BDI,
Thanks for asking. Lots of snow here so all I can do is look at it and dream. Rode it up and down my snowy street once. Been prepping it a bit and adding guards and things. Feels good to sit on it and make motor sounds..............

the text on that page mentions an "MX3" class. What is this "MX3" class? Is that like an Open class?? As in... something our K5's can jump into?

Hey I noticed you got that from Vernon motorsports, do you know Kevin? I'm in the lowermainland but may be heading up to see him on saturday about a motor he has for sale. Good to see I'm not the only B.C. boy here.

mx3 is the old World Motocross GP 500 class. 480cc minimum

I just love my couch. One of those planks would bust my arse. :-o ! Have fun on it Cam.
-
It will be a nice bike until you get 40-60 hrs on it and have to rebuild it...comprehensive rebuilds are 3000-4000 dollars depending on what is needed....I had an 03...I sold it before it started making noises...I would have lost money either way, No more 4 strokes..Yamaha just introduced the 08 YZ 250 and sales are way up over the past few years. races just can't afford the 4 stk. up-keep.........km
-
When the time comes contact me, I'll buy it as a roller.
-
Maybe/Kinda-No, you are still the Man, but wait till you see the Greenmachine I have built recently. You will want to keep yours.
Question for Cam and the hardcore gang/cold weather riders etc.
i live in warm so, California, but in old days glove were made thick and padded with real leather, and today they are thin fake leather that rip and leafe my hands sore.
I am told that maybe WTV gloves like joe rocket are what i am looking for???
I bet CAm and his 500 bros know of a super high quality thick real leather padded glove if it still exists as the snow guys know there gloves.
i am willing to pay more for comfort and durability.
I am sick of FOx/AXO/oneil etc etc synthetic leather gloves!!!
I know this is not the test/review forum, but please help if you guys know anything.
Someone said maybe roadbike gloves are thicker for asphalt and speed??
While we are at it, who makes the best non wheeled gearbag in kx colors, or black/(dark, not light/baby blue)blue/gray??
Thanks,
scott

Hay cam how do you like your red machine.
now now just cuz he rides red does not mean anything honda riders just dont like to have to fix there bikes every week
-
Cam,
Just curious, the CDN CRF450R is carburated still, right? Are the Suzuki 450 and Kaw 450 offered with fuel injection in Canada this year?
I took a short spin on my friend's CRF450 and is sure was nice. Rolling on that torque was very smooth and it seemed easy to ride fast. Turns really well, especially compared to the 500 and seemed nimble. It felt very light for a 4-stroke. Felt like a lot of powerband, too.
I thought you were riding at various altitudes there? If it was me, I'd seek out a fuel injection model. However, being plated is a must, so here in Calif, that'd have to be a KTM or Husky 4-stroke. Think I'll keep having fun on my green machines.
Keep us posted on your riding impressions. See ya on TT.
