Hey guys, I hate to be doing this but I am going to be selling my 1992 kx500. I love the bike but I need to go to a smaller newer bike. I have been interested in getting into harescramble more seriously next year. I ran two on my 500 and found some areas of my riding that really need improvement. One of those being hill climbs. I feel that if I go to a much smaller bike, I will be forced to improve this area of my riding as the big 5 can tractor up hills that I botch. My plan is to go to a 125 with a 144 kit and ride it for a season. I would love to keep two bikes but that is not in my ?fun budget? right now.
Now to my question, it?s a two parter.
1st ? what would you guys think a ballpark fair price would be to sell a 1992 kx500. It has been trail ridden and raced twice. It is not in the best shape as I beat it up in the woods, but it runs great. When I got the bike two and a half years ago, it was in terrible shape so I rebuilt what I could, putting about 500 in parts on it however that didn?t fix everything. It really should have a new rear brake caliper. The one on now had a pin froze and striped that had to be drilled out and the fabed pin causes it to drag a little sometimes. I have pics in my gallery of it.
2nd ? I think there are members of my family I would rather do this to but do you guys think it might be better to part it out.
Any advice would be great. I want to sell it for a fair price.

KX500 prices in Jersey are whacked. You'll see a 98 for sale for $1500 in great shape or a 80-something for $3500 in beat shape. Either way, the market is soft for used bikes right now, I've seen some awesome deals on Craigs and no one is buying. If I were you, I would use this time to your advantage to find a nice 125 cheap and keep the 500. Trust me, you'll be looking for that 500 power later on. I've seen 2000-up 125 for as little as $900.

I know what you mean about the sales being fickle however I am not in the position to set on the bike right now. I know it is going to be a decision I regret and will wind up paying a littler more for as I am sure I will come back to a big bore kx later. I am still debating if I should part it out or not
