is it common for a kx 500 to back fire while kicking it over. IT isn't doing it while running and it isn't doing it every time maybe 1 time out of every 10-15 kicks and it makes a loud pop just wondering if it is normal like a build up of fuel burning or is something failing on me in the engine.

is it backfiring out of the exhaust or carb.

out of the pipe

Mine does the back fire every once in a while. And man is it loud. Sounds like a large hunting rifle.
-
My bike does it and so does my buddies CR5. Most big 2-strokes I have seen do it from time to time. My snowmobile did as well.
-
Mine does it occasionally when it's warm and I kick it like a girl (when tired). Normally it doesn't. Cam.

...a good reson to start the kick at TDC
 the first k5 i started was a used one that was just brought in trade... nice good back fire, slamed my knee into the handle bars and every one at the shop laughing...

kick it like you mean it.

My 04 KX500 has never backfired ( the noise ) when kicking. I have had it kick back a little against my foot, when I am tired and not giving it a 100% manly kick.
If you figure out why that happened, please post it.
