I talked about it with the owner of my race shop to put 250 gears in a K-5.
But it takes a total rebild of the engine.

What gearing are you running at this time? Stock is 14/47 and 5th gear is pretty tall with stock gearing. What kind of racing or riding are you doing?

In Holland we have about 5 or 6 beach races. And 18 nov i'm planning to ride the Redbull Knock Out in Scheveningen. Like old fames Veronica beach race 80's and 90's but neven heavyer. Last year
I ran 15-43, at the long section its great (180km/u+), than back thrue the deep sand even a K-5 has it hard.
So I was thinking if i put a longer 5th gear in it I would stil have awsom top speed, and can go back a lot easyer.

Your best bet might be engine mods for more top end pull and over rev. What pipe are you running? Any engine mods at this time? What reeds or reed cage are you running? Carb mods? If you could make more power up top then maybe the taller gearing would be easier to pull through the deep sand. Alot of guy's here on this site have tons of engine mods for more top end power. Gowen a member on this site used the PVL ignition system for more top end and I think it came with a light flywheel.

Thats a very good idea about PVL ignition and a flyweel weight. I'm trying to hit 200km/u on the beach! Not that i can win the Redbull Knock Out, Marc de Reuver and Steve Ramon are riding also.
But it would be fun with the start to see a "nobody" on front, ant its me :-D :-D :-D
The engine is modified by a old factory tuner of Kawasaki, Rino Racing exhaust and Boyeson rad.
If you google Redbull Knock Out, you can see how heavy the track is

         BTW Thanks for the tips!!!!!

200 KPH is knocking on 140MPH, I would be very surprised if a KX 500 could do that without being chucked off a cliff.

It did 180 km/u very easely and the supermoto guys hit 220km/u if i'm correct. The beach is very smooth at the water line. It can be scary some times, but you must have fun in your life!!!
Last year I was even faster than a KTM SXS540 six speed and taler gearing at top speed. Its just magic to do that!!

Hey Menno

You are not going to have any gearbox options for what you are trying to accomplish. 4th and 5th gears on a stock KX500 are both overdriven ratios: 4th gear = .954 and 5th = .791
In theory you would need to gear your KX500 16/40 to pull 180 Km's (and that's "IN THEORY". I seriously doubt you can get a KX500 to pull anywhere near that top speed off road.....
I have a neat Excel based gearing caculator if you want it PM me your email and I will send it to you. It calculates theoretical rpm's and speed in all gears, and can modify the values from different final drive variables that are entered.
