Hey Everyone--
I just got finished putting a new air filter, spark plug, chain, sprockets, etc.. to my 1997 KX500. I just bought it a few days ago and figured I'd change the oil in the motor before I hit the trails. Does anyone know the amount of oil needed for an oil change on this particular bike? Also, does anyone have suggestions for what kind of oil to use? I ride mainly technical trails in the northeast...although I've been known to find a long flat straight and give it the beans every now and then.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Conan

I'm assuming you meant transmission oil, since we're dealing with a 2 stroke. I seem to recall that model had a sight glass window and you just add oil till it is in them middle of the window. The owners manual will call for something like 850 ml, but I'm guessing you'll be at the middle of the window with 750 - 800 ml. Hope that helps.

I personally use the full quart.
