I have complained a number of times about a chapped a** after riding all day. Most of the time, I hear that I'm not standing up enough. I made it a priority to ride standing as much as possible, especially when at pace. It has helped considerably, but not enough. I'm sure the gripper seats and the handful of throttle out of every turn ads to the problem, but there has to be help. I know it is a weird subject for this site, but I was wondering if anyone else had found the magic helper for this problem. I see that there are several varieties of protective under clothing. Some keep you warm, some keep you cool, some hold pads and some probably aren't worth buying. Anyone already cross this bridge and cure it? I know there are some riders out there that sit as much or more than I do. Forget about telling me to ditch the gripper seat, I like them. Anyone using a paticular style or brand of protective shorts or other clothing that they could recommend?

Myself have thought about buying some of those shorts. One thing that helps is make sure your riding pants fit, to loose in the upper legs and the butt area makes them move around.

Always!! No chafing with those on. A regular pair of those non-padded stretchy bicycle shorts works excellent. I have been wearing them riding for years. They are also alot more comfy than anything else once you are hot and sweaty. Also makes changing in the back of your truck a more modest affair when with a large group of "mixed" riders. I have been tempted to try those similar ones that are made for riding that have built in padding but haven't yet. Cam.
ps. They also make bike shorts that have a padded butt however the pads looked to be in the wrong spot for dirt riding.

Baby powder.

I never wore them till I started riding Quads. You do so much sliding around on the seat that after the first time I road my 700 in the desert, I will never be without them. :-D The non padded ones that is! I own a pair of padded ones, but I need to loose a few more pounds of my own padding before I can wear them!

I bought some riding shorts at the local motorcycle shop a couple of years ago, another great investment. It has a chamois crotch that protects very well. I too am guilty of sitting down too much, but the shorts work good. I dont care for those gripper seat covers, they pull on my pants, I use my legs and arms to hold the bike.
I just found at my local Tractor Supply Company a powder called " Anti -Monkey Butt powder " it has been very hot here in Michigan and I have been using it this week, it keeps the pants and shirt from sticking to the skin. This weekend I am going to Bull Gap for some extended, extensive riding and plan to use the powder. I will post again to report on it.

yeah that monkeybutt powder has been out for a long time around here in Texas. for long distance street use.

I've thought about them but have not bought them. Ive also wondered if this Underarmour heat gear would help under the riding gear. My son wears it during football and he said it works.
PS. I don't know if I want another pair of shorts to wash especially after I twist the throttle at the most inopertune time. :-o:lol:  :-D

I sit 80% of the time on my KX5 in the sand, which is why I am not that crazy about getting a newer framed KX5 conversion, those seats suck... :-P
Anyways, I always ride with the lycra/chamois lined shorts under my MX gear. Never have MonkeyButt, even after 4 days of riding in 90-100 degree weather.
The one I use is not made anymore but there are alot of top quality/long lasting ones out there. FOX, Pearl Izumi, Adidas, Cannondale, and more. They should cost no more than about $40-$60. Gel types are overkill since those are mostly for hard seats like onroad cycling. A supportive fit is best, less chafing and proper containment of the family jewels is also a great side benefit.
