Title: jetting tips for a 2003 KX500
Post by: sc rider on August 01, 2007, 08:20:40 AM
Guys,

I'm new on the board and just picked up an "almost new" 2003 KX500 from a guy in Michigan that barely rode it.  It came with stock jetting, (168 main, 52 slow jet, clip in the middle position).

I had a 2000 KX500 that I loved, but then along came the 03, which was in better shape so I sold the old one.

I had the 2000 jetted with a 158 main, a 55 slow jet and the clip in the 2nd position from the top.  I generally ride at around 4000 feet, (Movjave, California city, Ridgcrest areas), to as high as 7-8000 feet, (Big Bear and Gorman), or occaisionally lower, at around 2500, (in Lucerne valley).  This jetting seemed to work for me on the 2000 KX, so I switched the 2003 bike to it, and am ready to try it out.

After reading some of the jetting tips on this message board, I'm beginning to question if I am actually in the ballpark with this setup.

Can someone let me know if I'm jetting this thing correctly, (it still has the stock pipe, reeds, etc).

Thanks,

Brian

follow the advice above, and test for the different altitudes. sound like you ride in the same places as a few others guys here that have probably done some of that testing. maybe they'll chime in. and have fun with the quest!
