Is there any listing (or reference) to find the year of an engine using the engine serial #? I found a kx500 motor that is claimed to be an '02, but I've had no luck with finding the year it was manufactured. The serial # is kx500BE021302. Thanks

According to my Clymer (M447-3), the numbers KX500BE013001-ON can be model year 91, 92 or 93.
Given yours is a BE02 it's probably 1993.
It's not an '02, from 94 on the numbering starts with JKAKXVE, '02 being JKAKXVEC-2A032001.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure, but I'm thinking your manual is refering to the serial #'s on the frame. I hope.

You're right, I missed the asterisk referring to the 'starting frame number' comment, oops :-o
