Fuel injection! Sightings of this thing from '97 at Glamis report that it was nothing short of "fast".

I wonder why they removed the KIPS. It mentions that in the Special Setup section of the specs. That thing was probably insanely fast.

Not sure if this is the true reason, but I remember racing my '84 125, it had no KIPS system, and that was one insanely fast engine bone stock as far as power, than in '85 Kawi introduced the KIPS as is was a terd for hp, it took Kawi a few years to dial in the high end hp again. I bought an '88, and the power was awesome.

It was definately done to get the power into the mid/top rpm. The original motor in that trike is a non-powervalved 250. I have an 85 Tecate and the motor is nothing short of brutal in the power delivery aspect, like a lightswitch. Its either on or off..
*Also that looks like an 87 motor because its black.*

What do you guys think about putting a KX5 motor in a Kawie Mojave? I can pick up 2 wrecked ones for almost noting!

Probably be a fun ride for sure. I was infatuated by KDX's and Mojaves in the late 80's. Never got one but I used to drool over them all the time. My 500 is my first Kawasaki and finally fulfilled that dream of owning one. I don't know what it is but other manufacturers never caught my eye like Kawasaki.

It would vibrate worse then the KX500 dirtbike, that I know. Other then that you have to know it would be hella fun. LOL Extended swingarm would be a must with the short wheelbase of the Mojave.
Rubber mount the bars and get some bar slugs/jell grips. Make sure the motor mounts are strong and brace weak points in the frame.
I know of a guy that did the KX500 in his trike and left the bottom motor mounts off altogether. By the time it was all over the vibration of the motor had all but torn the frame in half.

And who wrote the article, for a writer from a 3&4 wheel magazine you would think that they would know the difference between a Tri-Z (Yamaha) and that the LT250-500 Quads are Suzuki. How do either relate to the Tecate (Kawasaki)?

On certain engines KIPS systems only enhanced midrange torque and throttle response, but adversley in some situations hurt top end. Perfect example was the '87 KX125, first year of KIPS, and that engine was a friggin' terd....
On my CR125 powered shifter kart, performance engine builders actually "plug" the power valves to enhance more top end hp up above 12,000+ rpm's

I had this magazine and seem to remember them saying the KX500 had plenty of low end torque anyway, also it was built as a high rev dune machine
