Title: What's my old bike worth?

O.k guy's I need some help. Thinking of putting the 87 87KX500 up for sale. Look at my gallery and tell me what you think I could get out of her. Yes I know she still an 87 model bike and may not bring much but it a solid bike.

I don't know why but it seems the KX500 and big bore 2 strokes in general don't hold value. Here's an 87 on e-bay.  Might make more money parting it out.  Good luck with your sale.

I restored an 87 YZ490 and got $2100 out of it! I had my buddy at the Kawie dealer sell it for me. I guess next to the $6000 - $7000 bikes it looked like a cheap! :-D

Sweet YZ490. I restored my 87 500 but I have been riding it it alot and that fresh restored look is gone. I feel like selling it would help me upgrade to a new bike. Parting it out might be it's death.

parting her out would just be sad...clean her up and see what happens. if you don't get what you want out of her, thats still a gruesome option

Sometimes the money isn't enough to replace the memories of the bike rebuild or the rides.

The money would be down a new bike. I got it bad for a new 2007 YZ450 or WR450. I agree it's hard to replace these old bikes and they are like old friends. I think I might try and figure a way to keep it for bench racing.

More of an update. I feel that I'm going to keep the bike and tear it down again for another restore and save it for vintage racing in my area. The color of the bike will change to black body parts, black rims, black back grounds. I was going riding this saturday but the rear brake carrier is damaged. That what sucks with 20 year old bikes there is always somthing that needs attention. Here's a photo I sent the decal guys at ridepg.com of the shrouds decal I will be installing. Looks like another 500.00 into her and I can have a kick but old school racer.
