just curious if shaving the head is possible on my 2002 kx5 and what kind of gains i will see
-
what is the stock squish set at.
-
use the search engine, lots of info
-
hey brian thanks.... i would say .025 cut on head with .010 head gasket and 0 deck hieght but if you run 110 reaserch or 105 moter octane fuel but you will lose sevral horse power with stock dome angles . check squish with a piece of silver solder .062 dia put in plug hole up agianst cyl wall rotate moter then mike solder itshould not be much thiner than ,030 stewart

Stewart,
What angle do you set the squish band at? When you cut the head do you trim the piston crown to match the head angle? (all these pesky questions....). Thanks. Cam.
-
i dont cut pistontop i cut 4 degree chamber in head
-
what no body makes homemade flat top pistons. :-D
-
so is it safe to just shave the head .025 and run the .010 head gasket without checking it after and what will i notice powerwise?
-
hey brian i always check it in line with wrist pin with soft core less solder .062 dia.and i turn moter past tdc 4 or 5 times i would always pre fer some one check the pieces seprate and figure but its a neat way to look at the angle between head and piston and clearnce for some one who dose not want to pull head or have the stuff to check with........... ps dont ever cut any head or use athinner gasket with out checking
-
Stewart,
Ah the secret is out, always checking with the solder in line with the piston pin. That way any piston rock won't introduce much error. I have seen guys use plastacine but it is very hard to mic. Cam.

Hmmmm... with all the head shaving going on around here I would think some of you would go and get Laser treatment so you can throw away those razors....
