Title: Shock Help!!!
Post by: Hammer 4 on April 10, 2007, 11:16:45 AM
O.K., so we are doing a "budget" rebuild/ repair on a 86 kx125. The shock is Toast, the problem is, no one seems to know what if any other yrs. / models are interchangeable. We'd like to pick up a decent used shock to install so we can get this thing together. Anyone know what shocks will fit the 86 kx125..?? TIA

you'll have to go with a 86 or older, in 87 the rear suspension was re-designed. I would guess this is going to be a real pain to find a shock for that old of bike. you may have to rebuild the one you've got, fact is it will probably be cheaper in the long run, a used shock will probably need the same thing yours does.

There is a 1986 KX125 shock on eBay right now.  You may want to check on that.  Since the 1985 is different than the 1986, which is different than the 1987 and so on, you may want to just stick with the same model.

Welp, after trying to find one that would fit, and be in decent cond. it's decided that RG3 will rebuild the shock, that way we know it's good. Thanks for all the replies.

$112.00 plus parts. Their rates just went up from 97.50.. :| Still, a local shop wanted 145.00 so that's not so bad.

We're you hoping to find a used one and just bolt it on and go, or were you looking for a used shock to have rebuilt?  I doubt you are going to find a used shock that doesn't need to be rebuilt.

Thanks for letting me know how much they charge.  That makes me think I have been charging too little.
