The one on my 250 was a bit worn out and started hitting the frame around the
swingarm bolt hole.... it never broke though, although I have heard of this happening.
I just replaced it. This is the cheapest place to get a new one:

$71.00  off here and $99 everywhere else.

This happened to my buddies 2001 YZ 250F while we were out riding on a track in BFE, needless to say roll starting that thing wasn't fun.  Good luck repairing it!

You can order parts at Bob Tracys world of cycles they have very good prices. I got a 1998 KX500 Kickstarter brand new for $77 that is alot cheaper then most Kawi dealers. Here is the web site.

Don't know if they are interchangeable or not but the part numbers are pretty close so maybe.  Best bet would be to call Kawasaki.

99 KX250 Kick Starter Shaft P/N 13066-1099
01 KX125 Kick Starter Shaft P/N 13066-1101

Or you could order the shaft online for $55.47 from www.oemcycle.com.  I bought a clutch cover and gasket from them recently, for abourt 30% less than the local dealer, and was very happy with the transaction.

Nice welds, but....your really wasting your time.  Just get the right piece and be done with it.  I've been there, done that.  Good luck.

A shaft from a 99-01 kx250 will work, 125 is to small. Your welds look awesome, unfortunately I doubt that it will live long, more than likely, when you need it the most is when it'll fail. all you need is the shaft, wouldn't think it would be that much.
