Anyone ever dyno or tach the KX5 to see what the top RPM is?
-
yes peak horse power is between 6900 and 7100 but the moter will turn to about 10200 rpm is the highest iv seen on mine on dyno
-
Ok, thanks...
Reason I ask, is cause I saw this one that dyno'd at 13,800 but that seemed a little high. I didn't know if running a lighter piston etc makes the difference.
-
I'm not sure if I would want to sit on it at 13,800! You could get a rude surprise!   :-o :-o
-
Just how high of RPM's can a KX500 survive? Reason I ask is because I want to get the Turbo crank mod which is just cutting the crank halves edge to look like a pinion gears teeth. Idea behind it is to create more turbulence inside to get a better mixture/burn therefore creating power. Don't want to do so if the motor won't last.
-
when they showed that high of rpm they must have not correctly set the pulse reading on dyno or what ever they checked it with we use three diffrent types of rpm readers each time to insure that our rpm is right it has to be or your horse power numbers will be off since dynos meusure tourqe and caculate hp off rpm

I had a question about Rpm and crank vibration? It seems that mine vibrates an almost uncontrollable amount until I get it on the pipe? But, in general it is hard to control, is that normal for a 500, or should I get my crank trued or something?
-
Be sure you have a good rod before testing...
Look in my gallery to see a failed rod and what it can do!
Most of all serious racers "back in the days" change rod to H...da rod to
cure the problem with weak stock rods in Kawasaki KX500.
I think Wiseco`s Hotrod maybe it?s stronger.... :|
-
Where at in the gallery? under what file name?
-
I think he means this one,

-
I mean this!
-
Wow, I missed that one.
-
I mean this!
Ok, you just scared me senseless...
What do I have to do or not do to prevent this? Are you saying that all stock ones are weak? I am not a crazy rider, but dude...I don't want a chance..
-
was that a cast piston or forged like wiesco
-
From what I've heard and read, the "turbo veining" mod is a waste of money. Just get it trued and welded.
-
Is it a real pain in the @ss to replace the rod? I like my dirt bikes to be reliable and don't want to blow a rod when I'm in mexico
-
Hold your horses,dcollins4328! :-D
This was at 10.000 rpm and with very light flywheel....
You "proberly" dont reach that rpm ever.
The best way is to true the crank and be very carefully when putting it
togheter again and use heat and cold and not any violent force.
Turboveining,very little effect I think. :?
steward, cast piston PROX.(do you remember last topic "power",I had some questions there for you IF you want to answer)? 8-)
-
yes i will get you those answers
-
Chappie I've talked to from england said the stock rod was especially weak just below the small end eye. Also reckoned that the Vertex or OEM (in that order) pistons were the best.
Get the crank balanced by a professional, for the RPM that you will most be using!
Very useful post... Been looking for this info for a while :-D
-
i would think that not having a forged wiesco piston is the reason for the brakon parts we turn these moters 10200 rpm which is all they will rev with 44 lectron and i have never broken a part in a kx 500 moter with wiesco piston and every thing else right
-
Is this a wiseco part?
-
no it is not
