Title: I WANT TO STUFF A KX 500 MOTOR INTO A TECATE-4............NEED YOUR INPUT!
Post by: 91k5punisher on January 27, 2007, 03:27:06 AM: I HAVE HAD AN ITCH THAT EVER SINCE I GOT MY K5, I WANTED TO PUT THAT ENGINE INTO A KXF250 TECATE-4 FRAME..........I HAVE HAD TWO OF THEM IN THE PAST AND WAS IN LOVE........... I NEED TO MEASURE EVERYTHING FIRST ..........FABRICATION WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM.......I THINK IT WILL ROCK!

ANY THOUGHTS.........(IT STILL TECHNICALLY IS A KX)

If you are dumb and impatient enough to be asking how to do this swap on the internet you shouldn't bother., My best advice is to stay in school first, gain some maturity, shut off your caps lock when you type, and ask us again when you calm down.

Post by: Polar-Bus on January 28, 2007, 12:18:38 AM: I am pretty sure I heard in a circle of conversation a KX500 engine will only fit into the '86 and up 3 or 4 wheeler chassis, not an '84-'85. I can't tell you what the difference is either.

Post by: blackkx on January 28, 2007, 01:55:31 AM: I am not sure about the tecate-4 but the 3 i beleive was aircooled until 85 so that may be a factor in frame size . I dont think hes coming back either but if he does he needs to apologize for being an ass himself .

Post by: JBKX on January 28, 2007, 12:01:21 PM: My 86 Tecate-3/86 KX500 project is complete except for lengthening the swingarm. The project and all free time was put off due to getting married and kids. The crank HAS to be balanced or the Tecate-4 will shake itself apart and possibly break the frame. Balancing the crank will shift the engine vibration to a RPM that you rarely constantly run at. Dave Roberts at ILR Performance is a Tecate guru and knows about such conversions. I don't have is info. handy, but a bit of surfing should help you contact him. The motor will bolt right in with minimal mods (front and top mounts mainly).

I with ya on the LT500 as far as i know that was the only factory produced 500cc 2stroke quad . I still think a tecat3 or tri-z with a big bore motor would be insane to say the least :evil: :evil: :evil:
