Title: Paddle Tire Riding
Post by: alan on June 15, 2003, 08:07:23 AM
I am getting ready to mount my  560X18 paddle tire on my KX5 and I was wondering how different the bike will handle. Does it tend to slip out from under you on turns? Is it really hard to keep the front end down? I have never run a paddle tire before, so I was wondering if you guys could give me some tips!

Thanks

Alan

With that big 5.60X18 @ 10 blades you'll have a good time trying to keep the front down when you get after it, otherwise I think it's pretty much the same ride.

Paul, I am having problems with the chain adjustment with the paddle tire! I mounted the wheel all the back as you suggested with the stock sprockets. When I added the extra link it is way to loose. Any suggestions? I don't know if they make a half link for my O - ring chain!

Paul, what do you think about going to a 45 tooth on the rear?

Thats what I normally run on mine. I have 13,14,15,45,47,49. I use the 14/49 combo for the dunes and thats probly why the extra link fit perfectly for me. Sorry for the delay in responding - doing the dad thing today :D

Ok Paul, that is the problem! I thought you told me you were using stock 14 and 47, I will order a 49 and I think that will do it!

Thanks

Paul.....
so i am ordering a new chain.  Do i get a stock length (114?) link chain and add a link? to run a 49 tooth rear with my paddle tire?  Or do i just order a longer chain to start with?

can you get a 10 or 12 cup for the stock wheel, or do you have to get a kx 250 rim on there?     I used a knobby on the front of the 250,I'm thinking of a sand tire for the front of my 5 . Are they worth it?
