Title: 87 kx500, whats it worth?
Post by: kx5tsi on September 20, 2006, 10:12:18 AM
Just curious, I just picked it up a few months ago for 700 bucks and im wondering if I got a deal or If I got ripped off.

Its a 1987 kx500, fox racing bars with new grips. It also has a pro circuit pipe on it and an answer silencer. Tires are so-so, prolly 50 percent. Very clean, plastic is all in tact although a few scratches and starting to fade in some spots. Seat has a minor tear in it. Im not sure if anything has been rebuilt, but the shocks seem pretty good and the motor runs great starts 2-3 kicks and man does it rip.

Just trying to gauge what its really worth, thinking of adding some parts but I don't want to dig myself into a hole spending money on a bike thats not worth much. Im not trying to sell the bike, just curious.

I think as long as you can find parts you can't go wrong!  Great price, I sold my restored 1987 YZ490 for $2000 and the parts were getting hard to find on them, because the stopped making them in 1990. I think you got a hell of a good deal! :-D :-D

I don't even want to think about how much money I got in my 87 500. But if I had to guess I would say around $2500.00. I will never get that for it but it's not for sell. I ride the hell out of it every chance I get. I can help you find parts. I spent the last 2 years restoring my bike. Just let me know. Let's see a picture of the old gal. I wish I had a picture of my bike before I started fix'n it up, it was a basket case.
