Hi, i'm new to this forum!!!
i have a 2001 kx500 that is almost stock.
i was thinking to put an fmf gnarly desert pipe with power core silencer and a reed spacer made by moose.
maybe someone have experienced this combo.......
what do you think of that?????????? is this a good choice (i want overall power)
and how this will affect my jetting
main 168-170
needle stock, 2 clip
55 pilot
air screw 1.5
thank you

I have the same set up and i did not change the jetting at all! I guess It would depend how it runs and what your plug reading are after you ad the mods. :-D :-D :-D

Many of us run your above setup (myself included). I am also running the "thin" .008" head gasket, and 100% Cam II race fuel. I am jetted #162 on the main. Once you lean the KX500 down a bit, it REALLY comes to life, and becomes way easier to start.

I put that exact same set up on my 04 500 this spring. It made a great difference in performance compared to stock.

I have the standard FMF Gnarly pipe and reed spacer on my bike, and the power is very controllable with plenty of it. Since you`re talking about the dez pipe, I think you`ll have more top end than my setup. Sounds like a knuckle stretcher setup to me. Can`t be bad.

did you put it all on at once or did you run one at a time? i'm curious to know how much top end the spacer shaved

Find a good tuner and get your ports cleaned up. That should give you the best over gains, aside from going hardcore (big bores, ect). The desert pipe will give you some sweet gains up top and the spacer will rob those gains up top for some low-end grunt. Seems like it would contradict eachother. I ran a moose spacer a while back, didn't like the power it robbed off my much loved top-end (I feel if I wanted torque/grunt I'd have a 4 stroke).
Have you considered the Gnarly, rather than the Gnarly Desert? The Gnarly pipe would compliment the spacer if you ask me as they both are down the same alley.
