Hey guys I know jetting is very important for us guys on the 500. The jetting post is great but I also think its a good thing to examine other peoples jetting spec's. Even though no two bikes are alike I find it helpfull anyway.
I'll start
01 KX500
Riding Location, Alt, Temp & Humidity: Newfoundland Canada, Sea Level, 20 deg C in summer, around 60% on avg
Riding Type: Tight trails consisting of rocks as well as peat and roots, old train rail beds and some woods roads.
Main: 165
Pilot: 55
Needle: stock needle 2nd clip from top
Air Screw: 1.5
Oil: What ever a 2% ipone mixture is
Fuel: Supreme gas
Engine Mods: Eric Gorr mo-better porting
Power Adders: on route FMF Gnarly, Reed Spacer. Currently running Boysen oem replacement reeds.
I'll revise as I fine tune. I'm going to a 52 pilot and 162 main along with the pipe and reed spacer. I'm getting some very minor surging right now so I guess I'm close. I was having some head sealing issues so I had my cylinder deck milled as well as the head (minor amounts for trueness), then I installed the thick oem HG (fiber and metal), torqued to 30lbs (all head studds are helicoiled) and haven't had a hitch. But I have lost some bottom end and gained more over rev. I'm hoping the tighter jetting, pipe and reed spacer will make up for that.

'99 KX500
Riding Location, Alt, Temp & Humidity: Coral Pink:6,000ft. 75-90 Degrees F. Humidity 30%. Dumont Dunes: 500Ft. 60-90 Degrees F. Humidity 10-20%.
Riding Type: Sand dunes.
Main: Coral Pink 185, Dumont 195 Pilot: 58 both places
Needle: stock needle clip at #1 for Coral Pink, #3 for Dumont.
Air Screw: 2.5 Coral Pink, 1.5 Dumont
Oil: Yamalube 40:1
Fuel: VP110
Engine Mods: Ported Cylinder, Balanced and welded crank, Milled head, Cometic High Performance (thin) gaskets. Bored Carb, FMF Desert Pipe, Boyesen Rad Valve, Barnett clutch. (Lightened Flywheel on the way :-D)
If it's really cool at Dumont, I go to a 200 main.

Im running:
162 main
#50 pilot
stock needle in 2nd groove from the top
2 turns out on the screw
I run 100% Cam II, and use Klotz R50 mixed @ 42:1
My bike's throttle response is CRISP !! I can chug through the woods for an hour, hit a WO dirt road, and the throttle response is "all there". My plug is light mocha colored
DONT try my specs unless you run uncut race fuel!

Polar-Bus,
What mods have you done to your K5? I'm running straight C12 at 700ft avg with mobil 1 2t @ 50:1 with 168 main, 55 pilot, 3rd clip and 2 turns out.
My bike runs really clean once warmed up without any spooge whatsoever but, I keep reading that if it's not surging a little I'm probably still rich. I've got a PC works pipe, V2 reeds w/spacer and EG full port/head mods.
My dilemma is I need some expert K5 advice on just how lean to push it.
How do I know exactly if this bike is surging or not?
I don't mind running on the edge if run even better than now.

i had to run a 45 pilot with 175 mian on c12 at 900 ft with 50 to 1 to get best dyno reading that should clean up spooge at idle

thanks for the input Stewart.
I have those sizes in my box already. I'll try them for kicks.
Was your bike surging at all with those jets?
