By law Kawasaki is required to carry replacement parts for 10 years after a cease production of a model. "By law" we are safe until 2014. I work for a Kawi dealer, and they are EXCELLENT as far as parts support for KX's. I can still get a lot of stuff for mid 80's KX's! Stuff for early-mid 80's bikes are quickly becoming unavailable.

I do know that most parts can be found for the YZ490's and the last year for those was 1989-90! so hopefully they will be around for a long time! :-D

Alan, Yamaha and Honda have always been good about keeping a load of parts on hand. Back in the day, I had a '86 YZ250 and an '86 TLR200 (Honda) and would order random parts for them when they were 10+ years old. I'm hoping the same for the KX, because I also had an '89 KX125 and parts were limited and some were not available. Hopefully that changed.

Hi everyone
Question for polar bear. Per your post I understand that you work for a Kawasaki dealer
and was wondering if you could search the service bulletin/technical bulletin data base for any mods or areas that need attention for the kx500 and share that info with us?

Serafin,
There won't be any "service bullitins" on the KX500, or any KX for that matter as it is intended to be a "competition" based model. There might be however "service updates". In my experiences with Kawasaki, when a brand new chassis is released, there is a TON of updates the second year (the KX250F is a perfect example, it5 had a lot of changes the second year of production). The chances are slim, as the KX5 has not recieved any significant engine/chassis upgrades since '89. I will do a dealer service inquirery to see what I can dig up.
