Guys I had new boots last season and this beast of a bike has them ripped to s**t already.
So I'm forced to buy new boots asap. Just wondering what you guys are wearing and what boots are the best for kicking over the 500?

Alpinestars Tech-8's..If I was rich, I would have the Tech 10's. Either way, there's a steel shank in the sole.
-
Sidi Force Flex's. The adjustable calf system is awesome :)
-
Gaerne SG10 here, very comfy from the 1st ride, and they seem to be durable...
-
Tech 8's have been great. Super comfy and breakin in a ride or two. Cam.
-
Alpinestar Vectors for me. The econo Tech 10 version. Nice sole makes walking in easy.
-
Oxtar supermotard, they fit like sneekers :-D

Same for me.

Oneal M900. The better half has Tech 8 . She loves her's, I hate mine. I've tried every trick I know but they just don't like me.

Go to your local MX apparel shop and try some different boots on. Remember that if the boot has an inner bootie, you will need to go a bit bigger on size than you are used to. I have size 13 Boots! They fit like a glove though and are not goofy big looking. I have Tech10's, they are great boots. I was a little worried about how long they would take to break in since they were very stiff, but they only took a few good sweaty rides and they formed up nice. Tough to walk in but when you are in the riding postition, you don't even know you have boots on! The latches are great, although they still will break on the plastic extending strips like the rest. My only concern after having them for awhile is the wear on the soles from the footpegs. They are replaceable, but the bottoms seam a bit softer than the tech8's more leathery material. The Tech10's are definately a hybrid between their street boots, which I think makes the bottoms too soft for thick spiked pegs and the more active footing of off road riding.
You still can't beat Tech8's......

AXO RC5's. Great boots and the lowers are completely replaceable. I've had them for 2 years and have only had to replace them twice. But, cost me $20 each time.

Alpinestars Tech-8's :-D

I wear tech 6s with my 250 and they are nice, Stiff as s**t but they let me shift and brake with ease, I picked up a new paid of tech 10s the other day at the cycle shop and tried to bend them at the ankle and they got like a super stiff rubber somethin back there and are impossible to bend and just feel super rugged, After that I picked up the best Thor boots possible there and bend them like nothing, Best boots are gonna be the tech series
-
The tech series boot go for $400 + down this way with the 8's going for about $550. thats a little price imo. I'm looking at the thor quadrant boots. The main thing I'm looking for is a steel shanked boot.

Fox proforma half price off an auction site :-D
-
I was looking for a boot that didn't cost a million dollars and picked up a set of tech 6s for 219.00. Excellent fit and finish. Also tried on the Fox Forma Pro but they felt a lot thinner and were much lighter.
Bang per buck its hard to beat the Stars. :-D

I think no matter what boot you choose, the KX5 is going to putt a TON of wear in the right boot arch area (where your kickstarter lies). I have a pair of Alpinestars Tech 6's, and after my first REAL day of riding and starting my 5, my right arch HURTS!! In any event, Alpinestars Tech series boots are #1 in my heart!!
-
Am I the only one that wears Tech 5's?
Another thing I've noticed is that once I got my starting drill down (after the first 2 times out) I didn't have problems kicking it or pain on my arch ever more. I'm "only" 145 but I think that years of kicking over an XR600 might have helped right the technique?
-
I have only ridden two KX5's and I can start them both sitting down on the first or second kick everytime. I suggest really finding the correct timing of when to give your own bike a full kick. Generally speaking, get it on the down stroke of the piston just after TDC. I personally give three small slow 1/4 rotations of the kicker after TDC push-over and then a nice 3/4 stroke kick sitting down... hot or cold.
If you are getting wear on your boot soles, it's probably from the foot pegs more than the kicker I would imagine. I can't see the aluminum kicker tearing up the boot soles, unless you are kicking the crap outta your bike every start-up.
I think any Alpinestar is a great boot, Tech5,8,10's. Of course every one is different and the only way to find what fits you best is to hit a large retail shop and try some on.
Oh yeah, a boot under $200 new is probably not a great performer. Somehow the old saying fits again "you get what you pay for"
