Post by: b0dem on May 04, 2006, 01:51:29 AM
Spent some time cleaning her up lastnight, here are some pics.

I`ll get some more pics today hopefully if my package arrives.
Also While cleaning the tires yesterday, (which had about an inch of caked on crap) I found the rims to be excel takawaga`s or something, I heard excel`s are good rims. what do you guys think of them?

A rim is a rim to me but the excel s are good stuff. Racers may look into aftermarket rims for weight saves or just cool looks. I am unsure if the excel rim is stronger than a stock rim. That bike will look real good after you get the plastics and stickers put on her.

Seems to have been a mistake on the graffix pack i got, and also the clutch/brake levers, they dont fit!
The fenders fit and look good, also the front # plate looks nice. It was a b*itch getting the d**n seat cover on though. The only thing I didnt order was the shrouds. So if anyone wants to buy a graph kit for a 97+ kawasaki let me know, or brake/clutch levers by moose racing. I`ll even cut you a deal on it. i`ll get pics up in a little while, gone riding!!!!!!

Why did the graphics not fit?? Your shrouds are the same as newer 500's and the tank has not changed that much or any at all.

I think the only other thing im going to replace cosmetically, is the fork covers, and probably the pipe, the fmf thats on its pretty rusty.

take some steel wool and wd-40 to that pipe.

MAn I was looking at the pipe lastnight, because at low rpm`s it makes a nasty rattling sound. And when I looked at the pip only springs were connecting it to the engine, is that normal?
Will wd and steel wool take some of the rust off?

Steel wool and wd-40 will take the rust off. The rattle sound you here is because the crush washer(cooper washer) between the pipe and cylinder it crushed or missing. A new crush washer and new springs plus 0-rings alittle high temp rtv silcone around the 0-rings and the sound will be gone. Yes, it normal for the springs to hold the pipe in the cylinder. The vibs are to bad to have a joint there that would require it to be bolted with bolts or locking nuts.

Check all the pipe mount to make sure they are not broken. The one under the gas tank breaks all the time.

You have got to stretch the heck out of the seat cover.  Use a heat gun and don't give up!

Nice bike!

Mine rattled when I first got it. Replacing the O rings did the trick. Later we replaced the upper mount with a larger one. The upper mount seems to be a weak link. It took me three trys to get my new seat cover tight.
