Title: 89 style forks
Post by: hughes on May 01, 2006, 04:45:35 AM
Hey Dudes I am upgrading my 87 500 to the 89 style forks. Mine are damping rod style forks and the 89 went to the cartiridge style forks. My question is if some can tell me if the 89 had rebound control at the top of the fork tube?? My 87 has only compression(bottom of the fork tube) and rebound was control by oil weight. Any idea's.

It's been a while since I had my 89 (stolen in 97) but there are two adjusters, one at the top and one on the bottom of the fork.  Can't remember which was compression and which was rebound.  I do remember they were great forks especailly after I got Race Tech gold valaves installed.

I can't wait to get some installed on my bike. Those damping rod style forks are very crude. I have correct springs for my weight for an 89 500. I am bidding on a set of 89 forks on e-bay.

I won the bid. My forks/tree/caliper showed up this week and they are great shape. Can't wait to clean and put new oil them get them on the bike. Looks to have just an air bleed on top no rebound and compression on bottom. Just pushing on these forks vers my spare set of 87's you can tell a big differance. These forks are 3mm larger than my 87's.
