I am picking up a new tire for the 500 tomorrow and I'm just wondering what some of you guys think a good all round tire is?
I think the best tire I ever tried was a Maxxis IT on my KX250.
The conditions around here are mixed from hard packed, loose gravel, loam and topsoil.

Kenda Millville here
-
I guess it depends on what kind of terrain you are riding on also! I like the Cheng Shin C760 Knobby MX Tires - if they made in a 19". I use to run the 560 X 18 on my YZ490's! I liked it the best for soft sand and dunes!
-
Michellin M12, best d**n tire I've ever tossed back there. Maxxis IT is ok, just don't put one on the front.
-
I'll have to second the Millville.

I'll have to second the Millville.
I just checked it out and it does look like a nice tire.
-
The area that we ride is rocky. I have 4 rides on my rear and will go another 5 before I need a new one. Holds up well under the torque of the 500. :-D
-
Once upon a time I had an Interco Terraflex
Good runflat tire, but Kind of heavy

Kenda Millville!!!!

The two main things I look for in a tire is the knobs, I want them to go a full 180 degrees around the tire and the second is weight. I let a friend talk me into a 4 ply heaver tire on the front of my KX and I still don't like it! :x

Cool, but it is an 18" and I already have my 560X18 paddle tire on my 18!

Kenda Millville!!
Great for roosting on your buds and it has a reversible pattern for diffrent terrain.
-
I want to know more about that terafelx 150/90/18. Is it to wide????
-
I think a 150 converts to a 560 like alan said so it should fit. Did you check out the video of these tires? I had a 560/17 on a 390 Husky with no clearance problems.
-
How wide is the 560? Is it equal to a 120 or a 130, 140? How heavy are these tires? My Maxxis IT seems heavy. I really like the nasty and gnarly look of that tire. I only trail ride so the extra weight might not even effect me.
-
I`m running a 150 tire at the moment, with spikes. No clearanse problem.
-
Hughes, the 5.60 means 5.60" ;)
-
That 150 is not that wide if it's only a 5.60. I guess it depends how they measure them. My 110 rear(not wide enough)was 5.0 from knobbie to kobbie. Does anybody know how the tire companies measure the tire width?
My bike runs a 110/100/18 that teraflex tire is a 150/90/18. It's not as big around as what should be on my bike. Will this cause any issues running a 90 instead of a 100?
-
This chart is about the best I've found. It only goes to 120 but you'll get the idea. The 150 relates how wide it is 90 is for height and the two numbers are relative (I think) :|

I have enough trouble with inches and pounds without thinking about meters and kilos.
How American of me

The tire sizes are metric.
For a 150/90/18 tire;
150 is the width in millimeters (25.4 mm per inch or 5.9 inches wide) usually not including the knobs. This is not an exact measurment since a 120 Dunlop will not be the same width as a 120 Bridgestone or 120 Kenda or whatever. They are close but not the same. Sort of like MX boots.
90 is the aspect ratio, the tire is 90 percent as tall (from the bead to the tread) as it is wide (150 X 0.9 = 135 mm or 5.3 in)
18 is rim diameter.
To Compare
110/100/18 is 4.3" wide and 26.7 inches in diameter, not including the knobs.
150/90/18 is 5.9" wide and 28.6 inches in diameter, but the knobs on the Terraflex are at least a half inch taller than most other tires, so the overall diameter is probably 3 inches taller than the 110 tire.
I have a Terraflex on my DRZ. I don't have a 18" rim for my KX but the swingarm is wide enough. It will probably rub the stock silencer a little bit. Just don't run the axle all the way forward in the adjusters or your mudflap might get ripped off when the suspension compresses. But you could rent the bike out as a Ditch Digger with a TerraFlex on it. :-D
-
Thanks for the good info. I think here in the next month or so I am going to get that 150/90/18 teraflex. I want a ditch digger. I want the sight of the rear tire to put fear in most.

Hey Huges check this calculater from interco's web sight.
http://www.intercotire.com/site60.php
The type 1 was the tire I had on my husky and was what I was looking for when I bought the milville. I did a search but couldn't find anything cause it wasn't looking for it correctly. Had I Known I could have still have one it would be on there now. If memory serves me it was marketed as a desert/enduro tire with runflat capabilities.

I run a pirrelli scorpian up front had a metzler on rare when i got z 5 hundie and it ended up bald as bald still hung on real well round the track with the side nobs, just fitted a dunlop to the rear and the old boy who recomended the dunlop looked up his charts and discovered that the old metzler i was replacing was way to wide compared to the original factory suggested width.
-
I had a metzler on my 501 Maico and it was a bad assed looking tire I still haven't seen one quit like it! Great tire! :-D
-
I called today and the guy measured the teraflex tire for me. it's 6 inches wide :-o and 27.5 tall and weight is 18 lbs. He said will hook up better than any other tire made.
Anybody wieght a tire lately? Just wonder how this weight compares to others.
-
Dunlop D752 110/90/19 11lbs
Michelin Starcross 110/90/19 12lbs
Both tires are 5.60" across
The Kenda Milville weighed a staggering 523lbs (w/bike and idiot attached)
*Weighed on the not so accurate upstairs bathroom scale*
