I bought my kx500 in 1990, rode some motocross, but mostly harescrambles up untill 97. then I had my bike stolen out of my backyard, but I recovered it 4-5 months latter when the guy had in the back of his truck on the way to the hospital. I had the fork seals replaced and set it up in the shed. It's been there up until last week when I took it out and washed for the first time in 9 years.
I thinking of looking to update the forks with new ones from a later model 250 if I can find any in my price range.

You would need some other parts but this company keep it rootin is a full time tear down bike and sell they on e-bay. Hey, Welcome to the site. Is that 90 500 in good shape after sitting for so long?

Welcome to the site! Sounds like another theif fell victom to the KX. lol
-
Welcome! So I am kind of curious, did your KX mess up the guy that stole it?

thanks for the link, but I'm looking for newer forks, say maybe 04 or newer.
I had saw on a local web site that there isa listing for 04 forks for kx250 for sale. I know I would have to relace the tripleclamps but I'm also looking for protaper bars to replace the stock ones.
it's kind of rusted in places, like on the frame where your boots would rub and a few of the bolts. I'm going to tear it all the way down to the frame and have it painted, and then replace everything I can as I build it backup.

thanks, does anyone know if the head and the cases are painted or are they just plain alumium, i need to get some rust off and and its going to be hard to get down in some of those valleys.
-
My 87 had the cases and cylinder and head painted black from the factory. I used paint remover for the cases. the cylinder jug/head had to be sand blasted to remove the paint. I may be wrong but it seems after 88 they quit painting the engines and it just bare alumn.
-
thanks! thats looks right, i have been trying to buff most of the spots with a steel wire brush.
-
Steel wool will almost put a polish to the alumn. I used it on my cases.

Welcome to KX Riders a real friendly site, As Hughes suggested if you have not used them before keep it roostin is an effiecent ebay company to deal with, had a hardly used complete clutch basket sent out for me m8's 500 for $100 USD to my door.
-
Yep I've had good luck so far with ebay (touches wood). I've scored some goood stuff off there for my car and bikes.
-
Sweet, what sort of car have you got timbowe something as hot as your bike ?
-
Sorry Kiwi just found this post. I've got an Alfa GTV6. There seems to be a lot of them being wrecked out in the U.S. Cheap sorce of bits that are nearly unavailable here.
-
No worries Timbowe, yeah like my post about the clutch basket it is very resonable to get parts flown out here from the mighty USA if not to heavy, ive been the ship route with products from china when i was importing, but the quaratine charges and port charges were more than the products at times.
