Title: 500 --> 250
Post by: gwcrim on March 20, 2006, 05:55:32 AM
I'm thinking of ditching the 500 for a 250.  I'm old, flabby and lazy and don't feel like muscling the 500 around anymore.  Is the 250 that much lighter and managable?  Or should I be a real puss and look at a 125?

It's not the weight so much as it is the ergonomics and less rotating mass of the 250 crank. The 500 "feels" heavy because it isn't as well balanced as the 250 and that huge crankshaft spinning around in that crankcase makes it hard to turn as well, it's that whole gyro-scopic effect :D

Crim, understand completely. I really enjoy riding my 250 alot, more than my 500 at times. But mainly because of track-time :-D. You will like a 250 more than a 500. The power hits harder though, so you might consider a 4 banger seriously. Smooth power hit.

EDIT: As far as lighter and more managable. YES! by far. Not lighter though, but depending on the 250, if you buy a fairly new (within 5-6 years) 250, they feel like riding a feather, very easily monuverable and easier to ride by FAAAAR.
