There is an 87 cylinder on ebay, does this cylinder fit a 2001 kx500? Apparently it has the KIPS valves included and just needs a replate (if you can beleive that 100%).
Is there a big diff in the power bands with the 2 part KIPS valve vs the later model 3 part KIPS valve?
Can the 87 cyilnder accept a 2001 head and metal HG?

The cylinder will bolt right up. The power valves are not as re-fined as the newer ones. My 87 bike has a tubo style power band. Hits hard. The heads/cylinders are diff. but I would check the part numbers for the heads.
-
so would you say the 87 has a harder hit power band more like a 250? I think an 87 head would be needed as the mating surface seems to look a bit different.
-
Yes, The power band feels more like on and off. I have tried jetting but it still feels like a light switch. I like it.The head gasket part numbers are diff. If the price is right I would pick it up and if you wanted you could find a head later. If I had the cash I would out bid you on it.
Sorry for incorrect information the 89-04 head gaskets will not work on the 87 style head and cylinder.

make sure you ask questions about it and read description good.notice if pictures show all sides.then check feedback on seller.just got a 89 cylinder today from a darnell0 and it said "in great shape, sleeve not gorged or broken just bored to max.well it is broken at the top on exhaust side and gorged from piston seizure.plus a hole drilled in intake and one in transfer port.probably no2 fed.no luck lately on ebay.still no transmission i paid for jan. 4th.filed claim on that one.just be careful and check feedback.

Man why does ebay seem to be getting worse for these types of things. It seems to becoming a scam artists dream. I'm sure most of us work hard for the toys we have, and spending a few extra $$ to pick up a cylinder as perhaps a replacement for an already toasted cylinder, or what ever the case, is not easy to do when you have a family, a mortgage etc etc. It just pissess me off. I know the cylinder you were talking about because I was watching it also. I'm sorry for your luck but I'm glad I diden't take the chance. In my opinion there is no way for ebay to control this because on one side you could have a dirty seller, or a dirty buyer, so who the hell do you beleive right.
I think there is some lawsuit on the go now with ebay because some guy was using it to sell some fake brand name stuff, but the company whos products he was imitating got wind of this, thinks it is very serious and is taking ebay to court...............correct me if I'm wrong.

If there is somthing that I am watching I will ask the seller for more detailed pictures of the product. It helps. No pictures no bid from me. So far I have good luck with my bids. The only thing I buy or bid on e-bay is dirt bike parts. I have not even looked around on there for anything else.
