Title: Motocross KX500
Post by: hughes on November 28, 2005, 12:55:22 PM
Hey Guy's anybody using a kx500 for motocross :?: I am going to use my 87 500 for the woods and I am trying real hard to buy a newer 500 and I want to use it for track. Who makes a light weight tire(My Maxxis are heavy I can feel it when I jump) :?:Would I run the 110 or 120 rear :?:  I want a good track bike but don't want a four stroke or a small block 2-stroke. Besides power can a 500 handle the track like the newer 250's can :?: I guess suspension is key but is stock suspensions with correct springs good enough :?: The 250's are so easy to ride on the track anybody got one of each 500 and 250 they have rode back to back on the track :?: Sorry for all the question. Thanks

Is there an open class anywhere any more? Where can you ride a 500 in any off road competition, except maybe Motard and Hill climb?

Alan :?

In PA I've seen all size bikes in the vet classes. I rode the kx in the 40+ group this past season. All I got was a bunch of questions about the bike and one guy asked me if I ever lost a hole shot with it. The racers nor the promoters said nothing about the bike for the class I was in.

I've raced my 500 in the vet class.  In reality they should let you run with the 450's since the power is close but I doubt a promoter would let a "500" in the 250 class.  Got a holeshot every start so that speaks worlds for the KX's power.  I run a 120 rear.  Kendas have been good to me but there are other light tires out there.  Correct spring rates help the jumping, and the KX eat big whoops quite nicely.  I used to have trouble cornering it fast but front tire selection made a sensational different there. Cam.

The older you get the more you learn, success is NOT how much money you make or how many toys you have, IT'S HOW LONG YOU PUFF AIR!

Success for me, becoming a wise old man.

And yes I keep my wheels on the ground most of the time.

I just heard that one out of three people over the age of sixty five will fall this year. That means two out of three old geezers will have a great motocross season.LOL I hope they are riding KX500's.

Success for me depends on how long I can hang on to what LITTLE sanity I have left... The strange thing is that it seems to be directly related to how much time I get in the saddle.
