Title: Need help mounting a 2019-21 KX450 front end to 95KX500
Post by: joko on November 04, 2020, 09:48:51 AM
I bought a set of 2021 KX450 forks and am attempting to fit them up using the KX450 brakes and front wheel with spacers and axle. By just holding them next to the 500 forks, they appear to have a bit longer stroke when the axles are lined up, also the height runs up higher and may nearly hit the bottom of the handlebars. I’m concerned when the forks bottom, they may hit the fender and cause an endo. Also not sure if the axle lug offset is the same as stock, and if different, the triple clamp offset may have to be altered to keep the stock geometry.
If anyone has mapped out this conversion and can offer any advice, I’d greatly appreciate the help! Thanks, Joe

I put 2017 kx450 forks on my 97 500 and also used 21mm offset triple clamps if thats any help. I believe the 500 stock offset is 25mm. I also installed a steering stabilizer. I li e the handling and newer forks after proper valving. No issues with height, fender clearance, etc.

I was told stock is 23mm offset, not sure if that’s correct?

Ive read that too. However, when i lined up a set of stock 25mm clamps from a different bike with my 97's clamps, they looked identical. With less offset, it moves the front fender closer to the pipe which you do need to watch out for if you go that route. I went with the new style front fender and number plate when i did the fork update too.
