Does anyone know anything about the old KTM 500's. I have a chance to buy a 1990 KTM 500 for cheap. Just wondering if I should pull the trigger.

I've read that the tranny was a little notchy and the suspension wasn't that hot but reliability was good and it had a killer motor. The power was supposedly better than both the CR and KX.It had the spread of the kx with the response of the cr.I've only ridden with one once and that was when I had a 250.It seemed very potent.I'd check about parts availability.I read somewhere that clutch plates interchange with our bikes.Maybe just the fibres.

I have heard that "odd" spare parts are not easy to get by for KTM's. This seems to be a general problem maybe not related to older bikes only.

How many were produced? Spares could be a killer.

There was a KTM 550 two stroke on Ebay last week.
Of about 93 or even 94 vintage, upside down forks and lookes a nice bike to me.
The engines still get used in sidecar motocross so must have some poke.

The price is 450 and he has a parts bike too. So I think im going to pick it up.

Sounds like a good enough deal to take a chance on to me. Go for it.

$450 for a open class motocrosser is a good price whatever it is :D
Worth a bash I would say.

Well I passed on that deal. It needed a rebuild and i could not find any parts for it. Another deal came up I now own a 1995 YZ125. I needed a bike for my son. I was actually looking for a cheap KX250. OH WELL. This will keep me happy for about 1 month hehehe.
