Title: 88 vs 90 kx500
Post by: Wilde1yamaha on December 01, 2019, 01:15:23 PM
Hey guys I'm almost ready to assemble my 1988 kx500 and put the track kit on, my question is are the 1988 and 1990 cases and cranks the same? I know the cylinder is way different but what is is different? Thanks

88 cases have more crankcase  volume/
88 cases boysen case port Wont match the 90 cylinder perfect
88 have no retainer on one gearbox bearing/ same size so no issue there
u need differant  lenght rear cylinder studs if  interchange 88/89 cylinders

Crank are pretty much the same 88/89 the just look differant /different method to balance/ holes vs countersunk area

Are the case halves the same besides the bearing retainer or are they different volume?

Differant volume / 88 had larger crankcase volume
