Hello all,
This is my first post on the forum, but I have been reading the topics on here for some time now. My son races a KX500 in the UK, he's only 19 and loves the 500.
Our 1989(?) KX500 showed typical drive side main oil seal gone symptoms (oil loss, smoking). Upon strip down found a small crack on the oil seal/main bearing housing. I'm a bike mech and an engineer so I like to think I know what I'm taking about (unless you speak to my Wife, daughter, son, family, close friends etc etc).
The plan is to weld up said crack, dress the inside oil seal/bearing faces whilst leave the outside for strength.
I am unable to post pics, sorry.
What are peoples thoughts about this issue.
Many thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to the forum.
PM me the pics and I will post them.
I have fixed a fair sized pile of cases so depending on the specifics my bet is that it can be done.

Hello Sandblaster,
Thanks for the reply and the offer to post pics. Yes, I grooved it out and did a small weld. Last night fitted seal/main bearing. Bearing was a loose drop fit when case was heated and bearing froze.
Thanks again.
