Hey everyone. Been a while since I've been on a board. I use to be very active on vintage honda CB forums, but have since sold all of my street bikes. Both of my sons mess around on dirt bikes as I did when I was a kid, I felt left out and scored a 1991 KX250. Cleaned the carb and it runs strong, but needs the kickstarter fixed. It slips unless I pull the shaft outward then make sure it engages the teeth.
Anyway, here it is. Wish me luck! Also, I'm looking for an aftermarket exhaust if anyone has an leads. I haven't been able to find anything.

Welcome aboard Nynex.
Good lookin '91...as I'm sure you have already, just keep scouring e-bay for an exhaust...something will turn up eventually.
You're kickstart issue should be a simple fix...possibly a worn out spring, but you won't know for sure til ya crack it open and have a look.

Thanks man. I got it cheap too, so I couldn't pass it up. I am on Long Island so we can't ride to much here, but I am going to trailer our bikes to PA to hit some trails when it warms up. I'm going to pull it apart soon and make a list and start ordering parts!
Do you know what year exhausts will fit? Is it only 90-91??

I believe so...they're the only "H" models.

Thanks. Looks like it's going to be a tough find. I was reading a pipe like the FMF gnarly is what I want for trails.

Stay positive!....some of the stuff I got, took a couple years of relentless scouring e-bay several times a day to find certain parts.
Over the past 2 1/2 years I've spent $8K+ on 2 complete transmissions, 4 complete sets of KIPS systems, a brand new in the box cylinder, 2 brand new heads, and 1 brand new in the box crank for my 500...all came from the Netherlands

I know all to well. I've built a few vintage DOHC hondas and found many NOS parts. Many from Japan. I don't want to go nuts. But we will see!

Ask how many guys have said that...and then looked back when they're done, and realized they spent $1K or more than what they...ahem...expected

I decided I need to buy a carb for the bike. I really don't want to spend the money on a new carb or a lectron. Can anyone recommend a good used carb I can look for? I heard all of these bikes using the carb mind came with have the same problem. Won't idle and run rich. This is due to the jet block leaking.
-
Yep, the jet block can cause all sorts of problems..
I would recommend a 96-97 kx250 carb.
It is a 38mm, long body, quad jet, air striker...
Perfect fit and more performance.
There are bad sellers on ebay trying to pass off fakes.
So, Make sure the big end has the two vanes at the bottom of it.
Also you can get a Chinese knock off for about 30 dollars and they work fine for a short time but they wear out very fast.
The big issue on the 96-97 kx carb is again the jet block.
You can go to www.jetsrus.com and get a new one.
