Sorry can't help you in CT. Come to Oklahoma and I'll hook you up with some good riding, it's right out my back door.

Connecticut has 32 state forests that are made up of 170,000 acres.  I would suggest to contact the DNR first, for maps.   I can download and print Michigan DNR trail maps. I am guessing you could do that too. Here in Michigan we have the Cycle Conservation Club. They have a map book of all the DNR approved trails and riding areas. Perhaps you could check with a local dirt bike shop to see if Connecticut has a similar group. Good luck with your trail search. I always find it  to be great fun spending a weekend riding new trails. I still havent ridden half of the Michigan trails  and I ride every weekend of the summer.

You're lucky!  Unfortunately there are no legal areas to ride in CT..  My only other options are to go north ie:Massachusetts, Vermont, or join this group and try to make a difference, http://www.cttrailusers.com/ .  In the mean time, it's time to get a trailer!

I was told that all Michigan trails would have been shut down in the sixties, if not for a group of cycle riders getting together and forming the Michigan Cycle Conservation Club. They have lobbied succesfully and were granted permission to make and maintain a trail system. They have expanded the trails and connected many of them. The trails used to be groomed by volunteers, but I believe they now are groomed by the state using the money from the ORV permits that we buy. I didnt realize how good things are here, until you told me that Connecticut has no legal trails to ride. We have the Silver Lake Dune area and the Mounds orv area, they are large open riding areas.
I really hope that you are able to locate some local riding trails. Did you ask at motorcycle shops? Did you check to see if there are any riding clubs in your area?
  Good Luck with your search.

Yes you're very lucky to have access to legal trails.  I've gone to local shops, forums etc., and they keep pointing me to mx tracks in the area.  Don't get me wrong I like riding mx tracks, but I think I would much rather be able to wander the trails and explore new areas, than being stuck on a track.
I would really like to get active with http://www.cttrailusers.com/ . Maybe one day we will be able to have legal riding areas.

Saner, if you or anyone else ever travels to Michigan, I would be happy to share my maps and show you where my favorite trails are.  A few years ago, I didnt think there were any legal trails in Michigan, now I think it will take me many years to ride them all.

Thanks, Johnnie.  Hopefully next summer I will be able to make it up there.  My wife has family in Indiana about 10 miles from the Michigan border.  It would be sweet to check out the midwest riding scene!

Your inlaws probably live close to Red Bud MX track. It is in Buchannon Michigan. Just a little north of South Bend Indianna. The National race is usually on Fourth of July weekend , I have attended the last two years. I live about two hours north of Red Bud.
